My wife and I have decided we're going to try acid staining our extra living room. I figure if I mess it up we'll just put a handscaped wood down so I don't really have any worries. For some reason I've gotten to an age were I like doing things on my own.(for good or bad)

Anyone have any secrets or hints when it comes to doing this?

Take the hit of acid about 1 and a half hours before you start staining. The key is positive thoughts.

Woodson, I'm not even sure positive thoughts would help me with that ride. Last time I tried doing something like that I ended up in a friends pool naked screaming at everyone to save the whales.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'm one of the good guys. Nobody knew if I was talking about actual whales or referring to the girls in the pool with me. They ended up angry because they thought I was referring to them as the whales.

I used to do this kind of work. It's really not that difficult at all but one piece of advice would be to make sure to rinse the heck out of the concrete, especially any cracks or pits with baking soda/water to neutralize the acid after it has done it's work. If it seeps into a crack and doesn't dry or if it stands in one spot longer than another it will keep eating and either result in an uneven finish or even eat down to the aggregate concrete. Good luck!

Let me know how this works out. We were thinking of staining our porch.

Thanks!
