Action Points

I would appreciate any advice on which SportsBooks are considered the best to wager with for the action points betting. Through my research, it appears many of the books still don't offer it. Also which ones offer action points for only football and which books also offer it for basketball or any other sports.

Action points would appear to be a good way to take advantage of a game you really felt comfortable about and thought it would have a more likelihood of surpassing the spread by a wide margin than falling short.

I'd also appreciate it if anyone could share their thoughts or experiences with action point betting and whether, in certain circumstances, it is a good bet to make. Thanks.

Action-Points Rules


An Action Points wager allows a player to place a bet on how many points his/her selected team will beat the spread by, up to a set cap. You can choose your own cap of between 1 and 15 points on pro football games. You can also choose how much you wish to bet per action point. When you place an action-point wager, no money is deducted from your account, but your maximum potential loss amount is restricted from your account until the game is final.

You win the dollar amount wagered for each point by which the team covers, up to the selected cap. You lose 1.1 x (dollar amount wagered) for each point by which your team does not cover, up to the selected cap. A typical payoff chart is shown below.

Team A is -7; you choose a cap of 10 points; the wager amount is $10 per point; the amount restricted is $110.

As can be seen from the top chart, if Team A wins by 17 you still only win $100 due to the cap. On the other hand, as shown in the bottom chart, if Team A loses by 3 you still only lose $110.

Thanks IE. I knew WSEX offered it for football only but was hoping to catch a second book that had it for basketball also. I believe the BetChris(Bookmaker)/Diamond group offers it but they were the only ones that I could find that offered it for hoops. I was surprised none of the other preferred SportsBooks listed amongst the sponsors offered this bet unless I missed something. Also I had trouble finding books outside this group that would offer action points.

Perhaps I believed it would be a more popular bet than it actually is. For instance, I felt Ohio State had a better chance of of going over the minus seven last night than California had of keeping the game close. Hence, a bet on Ohio State for up to ten action points would have been the play. Final score, Ohio State 73-56. I realize I could just put the same amount on Ohio State at minus seven. However, I felt this action point bet would maximize my winnings when I felt a rout was more likely and hopefully limit my losses in the long run when I did lose, feeling that the margin wouldn't be as great in the losses over the long run.

Anyway, does anyone know of any other books that may offer this for preferrably both basketball and football (arena included). Also, any others have experiences with this bet being beneficial or more of a tease. Thanks.
