I don't think it's fair to say " Not your typical greedy ballplayer " Jeez he made 70 million over his career. I think it's great to be able to walk away from baseball & spend more time with his family. I'm sure he's a great guy but he isn't in my running for father of the year because of his decision.
My parents like a million others spent most of there lives working to keep up with the basics food & shelter. I never felt cheated or disappointed that my father couldn't spend more time with us & to tell you the truth at 12 yrs. old the most important things to me was my friends & sports. I really didn't want my parents hovering around me at every event in my life.During the summer months I left the house in the morning & didn't return until 3:00 pm ( when my father came home ). Now if a 12 yr. did that the parents would be arrested for neglect .
Good for you Adam LaRoche we all wish we could do it.

I bashed him when it all happened. I thought it was dumb to walk from the money and I also thought it was dumb to have his kid there everyday.

I've read several stories on him since and all I can say is the dude is a complete stud. I have a friend who's father has worked internationally in the sex slave business trying to help young ladies and all I can say is someone who puts themselves in harms way to help those young ladies is a good dude.

I THINK IT WOULD BE A LITTLE UNCOMFORTABLE FOR HIS TEAMATES GETTING DRESSED IN FRONT OF A TEN YEAR OLD KID.WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF WE HAD ANOTHER JERRY SANDUSKY INCIDENT THEN MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL AND THE WHITE SOX COULD BE SUED :shrug:

ADAM LAROCHE IS OUT PLAYING AND THE EQUIPMENT MANAGER IS FONDELING HIS KID DONT YOU THINK MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL COULD BE SUED

THE BOSTON RED SOX HAD AN EQUIPMENT MANAGER MOLESTING KIDS HE DIED BEFORE HE COULD FACE CHARGES AND THE RED SOX STILL GOT SUED.HE WAS A CLUBHOUSE MANAGER PERVERT BACK IN THE 80'S

Because he was there during spring training and he was always around. Jr and Pete Rose Jr as well as other kids in the Reds clubhouse of the mid 70s said that while they were allowed to run around and hang out in the clubhouse it was never on the level of LaRoache's kid was.
Privately the players on the white sox almost to a man didn't have too much of an issue with it, in this case it was mostly the GM that botched the PR part of the whole deal.
Can't imagine waking away from. 13 mil -- but I've also not earned 70 mil prior to leaving 13 mil on the table

I understand the kid being in the clubhouse occasionally but everyday, that is over the top. I do not blame the players for revolting. Doesn't the kid have school to attend?
