How's things, bomber.
I think I'm probably most qualified to explain (alright...GLOAT!
![Wink ;) ;)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
) about PAWA's pain.
As I'm sure you know, Jade Rawlings left Hawthorn with the intention of going to the Kanga's.
(Hawks wouldn't offer a 3 year deal....Geelong did....then Kanga's offered $30k a year more....then suddenly Jade 'wanted to play with his brother!'
![Wink ;) ;)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
)
Anyway....Kanga's would only offer up 2 draft picks for him, and Hawthorn had said all along that they would require a 'replacement' type player.
Here's where the Doggies step in. (Although, probably technically against the 'spirit' of trading, I reckon it's one tremendously worked out, intelligently handled deals I've ever seen!)
We offer pick 6 to the Hawks (which we got from Richmond in a 3-way deal involving Peter Street and Nathan Brown) for that well known, highly talented (maybe!) first year player Lochlan Veale.
Hawthorn then shift that pick 6 off to Essendon in a swap for Danny Jacobs. We also give Essendon Mark Alvey. (Basically as a sweetener...but also so the Bombers get a draft pick instead of going after Koops.)
So, on the surface.....
Dogs give pick 6, gain Veale. (And Koops in a round about fashion!...Although it cost us pick # 19 also.)
Ess give Jacobs, gain pick 6 and Alvey
Hawks give Veale, gain Jacobs.
But, in reality, by insuring the Hawks get Jacobs it means Rawlings has no choice but to nominate for the pre-season draft (due to salary cap restrictions), and of course the Dogs have pick # 1
A lot of people (including PAWA, no doubt
![Big grin :D :D](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
) are upset because of perceived manipulation, effectively 'feezing out' the Kanga's from Rawlings...but 2 factors were at work.
1) As I said, Hawks wanted a player, not draft picks.
2) A deal was
almost done......
.....And I quote: "The offer of pick 9 and 24 was to Essendon really. They were going to then give Bolton to Hawthorn and [the Kanga's] would receive Rawlings.
The deal collapsed because Essendon sunddenly decided that Bolton was worth 2 first round picks.
After this Sheedy then decided that Bolton was actually needed and that Jacobs could go....as long as the neccarssary though unreasonable 2 first round selections were received.
North Melbourne never had a hope of finding another high selection so the Dogs entered the picture with pick 6 and Alvey which Sheeds of course accepted."
That isn't
strictly true, because as I said earlier, Steven Koops was in the mix also......
But there you go mate.....Hope that all makes sense
