I think there is some value in tonights games.

W.C. Eagles (-6.5) at home to the CATS. $1.90

Richmond TIGERS (-12.5) against a very much under-manned Carlton BLUES $1.75

Any more spotted by the Aussie Rules followers??

2 from 2 on last nights games. :)

Liking the Port Adelaide / Brisbane / Essendon treble and also Essendon outright at an absurd $2.10 against Fremantle. I realise that Essendon are missing a couple of forwards but they should be too strong for the upstart DOCKERS!! The BOMBERS are still in the top couple of teams in this league and the DOCKERS have a long way to go yet.

PAWAQATSI,

Nice work going 2-0 last night.

I was very very close to pulling the trigger (but didn't) on West Coast last night basically because I think Geelong are so weak this year.

I felt the line was about right on Richmond vs Carlton so left that game alone.

No plays for me on todays games but here are some thoughts:

Port Adelaide -12.5 should be too classy for the Wstn Bulldogs but they don't need to win this game to make the semi-finals. They could afford to lose by approx 40 points and still get thru.

Brisbane -25.5 seems to be a reasonable line but I think anything could happen in this match.

Freo favourite over Essendon. WTF ?? You would be forgiven for phoning your bookie to confirm this line but it is correct. I actually think Freo will win this game and it is disappointing they are unbackable at the short price.

Hang on to your PORT ticket as it is looking good. Saw the first half against Western Bulldogs (70-10 lead!!) and they will take a lot of beating in this comp. Just far too good in all positions over the ground. I don't think you will need to hedge it.

Hmmmm.......better go and check their odds for the real season;)

Regarding Essendon v Fremantle odds....I thought they had made a "typo" and jumped on quick !! :D
Just can't see the logic in how you could like Freo's chances:confused:
I'll just kick back and ride out my treble (hopefully);)

Sundays matches

Sundays matches

Aaaaahhh the Bombers...should have known that they don't take this pre-season competition seriously!!!
Kept with Fremantle for three quarters and then didn't kick a goal in the final term  2 out of 3 on my treble.

I think there is some action on the Sydney (+15.5) v Hawthorn game. The Hawks are going through to the semi-finals regardless of the outcome and Sydney usualy play them tight.

Don't see much value in the Adelaide Crows v Melbourne Demons match.

In the Collingwood v Kangaroos match I expect the Magpies to roll the Roos by under 39.5 points ($2.50) with "The KING" Wayne Carey out with injury. I'll be heading out to Colonial Stadium tonight to vent my spleen on the Magpie scum anyway!!!:thefinger

The Sydney / Collingwood double at $4.50 is thus very tempting for a unit or two.

Another weekend of the AFL pre-season passes by and we are now down to the semi finals:

Port Adelaide vs Sydney (disappointing to see Hawthorn miss out on percentage)
Adelaide vs Richmond

At this stage Port Adelaide remain the team to beat and I think Adelaide might win their match to make it an all South Aust final.

I generally disregard the pre-season form and this year will be no different. The form will not become reliable until about Round 4 and until then I will be looking for nice value underdogs.

Had a funny night out at the football watching my Kangaroos belt a very pathetic Collingwood Magpies whom I had expected to put up some kind of show as they did last week against Hawthorn. I do love to give it to those 'Pie supporters :D

I thought the Hawks were "certs" for the semis but Sydney gave them a nice ol' touch-up not needing the 15.5 points on offer.

Adelaide doing an even worse number on the poor old Melbourne Demons (100 odd points).

Next weeks semis will be interesting to watch as they all have some genuine claims.

Cartman88 and any other Australian Rules Football followers....I have an interesting "mechanical system" for the AFL that has been very profitable when tracked over the last 5 years of results. The good thing about it is the odds aren't just your typical line bet value of $1.80-$1.90 but can actually run the full scale to $4-$5. More info to come as the real season gets under way;)
cheers for now

PAWAQATSI,

Look forward to hearing more about your "mechanical system" as the regular season starts.

In the past 2-3 seasons I have noticed a couple of interesting trends but I am yet to find that special stat which will lead me to an early retirement.

:)

G'day guys.

WOW! An AFL thread at Madjacks :D

Not meaning to blow my own trumpet here early on, but I actually won (tied with 3 others) a nationwide tipping contest (TipStar, you may have heard of it??) and shared $150,000 :p

There will be incredible value in the first 6ish weeks of football as the books adjust to the teams that perform better/worse than expected.....And I can't wait!!

Interesting, you must have checked the Port odds a little late Cartman88. When the line first appeared the Doggies were the 12.5 point favs:eek:  ....And I picked up Port to win at a juicy 2.38
Obviously a mistake by them, but they paid none-the-less ;)

Looking seriously forward to the year ahead...Hope we all have a good one.

MrChristo,

Port Adelaide at $2.38 !!!!!! DOH !!!!!! That had to be a mistake but I am glad to see someone was able to cash in.

Big effort winning the Tip Star contest last season as generally there are plenty of people that enter. Must have been a nice bonus picking up a share of $150k.

We are starting to get a nice team of AFL cappers for the 2002 season and we have representatives from most states. I am sure we will be in for a profitable year.

On a side note I see you are from Tasmania. If you have Austar you will be pleased to hear they have secured the rights for the Fox Footy channel which is 7 days a week 24 hours a day of AFL.

G'day MrChristo

I think I saw you on the news after your win with the other two...

Well done mate. I expect you'll have some great tips for us all in the upcoming AFL season. Looking forward to your input.

Cartman88, that is indeed tremendous news to me.

I was starting to get very concerned about it, because Austar are a bit cash-strapped and I thought they might not get the Fox channel.
Very happy about that.
I plan on watching every game and doing a running total on Brownlow votes too, because I am convinced the media have NO clues when it comes to giving votes.
Since the betting will more than likely follow various media awards there may be a bargain or 2 to be had ;)

MrChristo,

Even though Austar has struggled in recent months they received a huge boost last week when they were finally able to refinance a $400 million dollar debt. Subject to certain conditions they now have some breathing room until 2006.

I am not sure which part of Tasmania you are located in. If you have satellite the Fox Footy channel will be included in the "Deluxe" package. If you have Wireless Cable it will be available for $11.95 per month. The C7 Sport channel is going to stop broadcasting on March 31.

If ever you need any info on Austar or the Fox Footy channel send me an e-mail (you can get my e-mail address from Jack).

I like your idea of tracking all matches from a Brownlow Medal point of view. Hopefully you can point us to some good value as the season progresses.
