01/21/2002. After their troubling goalless draw with minnows Burkina Faso on Sunday, South Africa's hopes of powering into the quarter finals have been damaged further by the news that star striker Shaun Bartlett has a calf injury and is doubtful for Thursday's game.
"He has a right calf injury from the match against Burkina Faso and although we have started treatment, he is doubtful for our next match against Ghana," South Africa's team doctor Zied Eshak told reporters. "After that we will just have to wait and see how he responds to treatment."
South Africa coach Carlos Queiroz added that Bartlett's latest injury is a major blow to his team's chances in Group B. "It's like Nigeria losing Nwankwo Kanu or Senegal without El Hadji Diouf. We only have one Bartlett."

01/22/2002. Ghana's coach Osam Duodu has warned his players they can look forward to the same treatment as Samuel Kuffour if they fail to knuckle down. Bayern's Kuffour was sent home on Monday for criticising Doudu's tactics despite being the highest profile Ghanaian in the squad.
"The whole team met for over three hours to discuss the events of the past few days and the coach did not mess around in telling the players to either conform to instructions in camp or go the way of Kuffour," an official close to the team told reporters. "The players were also asked what their problems in camp were and at the same time psyched up to go out and play their hearts out for Ghana.
"We expected some other players to leave the team in support of Kuffour but so far nobody has done so. Everybody has been doing what is expected of him and we have had no further problems."
Ghana face South Africa on Thursday in Group B and the pressure is on as all 4 teams are locked on a point each. As yet, no goal has been scored in this group.
