I had liked Ohio St before...but after talking to a few people Iam hopping on Tech. Now I understand that they do these little slants and 5 yard outs....but thats what a spread offense is DESIGNED to do. Here in Toledo our spread offense is like that...we will throw the 5 yard pass and then its the WR responsibility to make something happen. Now I also understand that Roy Williams is gone...which really doesnt concern me as much as it should considering the fact that almost everybody on Techs team last year caught at least 1 ball during the season. And Ive always said that a spread offense is tough to defend. With a spread offense you HAVE to respect the run...because in that offense its PASS first then RUN second.....and when you got RUN second..you run long draw plays, QB draws, and even play action. Its easier to establish a running game in a spread offense because you got 4 DBs plaus a FS off the line.

After talking to JSMOOTH last night...I truly believe that he knows Jim Tressel better then anybody in this forum...and I really respect what he has to say about Tressel. JSMOOTH from where Tressel use to coach at Youngstown St. And he brought up alot of interesting points and they were all true. Of course Tressel will try to establish the running game before anything...ESPECIALLY with Chris Vance out. Another thing I notice about Tressel is that if his passing game isnt working...he will return to the ground and pound it away. Now I see alot of people saying Techs D is overrated...dont know why you can say its overrated when we havent seen it yet. We saw last years...this year, they got 9 starters coming back....so Iam imagining it can only be better.

If Craig Krenzel gets any sorts of pressure in the back field, I think theres a good chance of a sack. This guy has cement legs...he dont move for shit. OSU lost a few key lineman...espcially on whats gonna be his "blind" side, so thats something to really consider as well. The only thing Iam really worried about is Mike Doss...for some reason everytime I saw him play last year...I thought he was gonna pick off every damn pass...that dude gots some skills man.

So really Iam basing my cappin here and the spread offense really stretching out that defense.

As fas as weather is concerned...my sister lives on High St..which is down the street from the stadium. Iam gonna call her in a few hours and have her give me the latest scoop on the weather.

Texas Tech +6

This is from an anonymous person...its short, but sums up alot of things.

I frankly see a struggling OSU team at skill positions.
A revamping the Offensive line after losing two guys and one of them 1ST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN.
OSU needs to find a QB , they certainly don't have one yet.
They need to replace a near 1300 yd runner
They are short a blocking-running F.B.
No TE with much experience

I would tend to agree with you. You look at the two teams based on names, it's a no brainer. If you look at how OSU will try and grind the clock out on TT, then TT will be forced to throw the ball a little more which suits them fine. I think that the grass might slow Tech down some, but that will offset the injuries and question marks on OSU side of the ball. Tech very underrated. Not championship caliber, but will give some good teams fits this season.

Keep the great info coming hellah!

Another thing I took into consideration...and I normaly dont like doing this when I cap games...but in this case I will. Look who Tech plays year in and year out..Nebraska...Texas...Okie...Texas AM....Kansas St...man thats ROUGH. I thought Toledo had it tough playing UNLV, Pitt, and Minny...thats egg droppings compared to Techs. So Iam not saying that they will go into Columbus thinking that..yea we play Nebraska and blah blah blah - I think they are coached good enough to have them LEARN from other games...because really folks, the big 10 is down this year again..and OSU is nothing special.....especially with Chris Vance out...this guy is the next David Boston for them.

I did like Tech at +10.

The thing that bothers me most about this game is that this is the preseason favorite of the Big 10 at home against a mid-level Big XII team that's changing surface. And the spreads only 5.5 points?

I am willing to concede that the Big XII is the best conference (sidenote to Monk, Dynomar and Freeze - if you bring this thread up in later conversations about conference superiority, I'll deny I wrote it :) ) but has the Big 10 fallen off that much?

I've seen very few games that Texas Tech has played in (- vs. Oklahoma last year, Iowa and E. Carolina in the bowl games) but their offense doesn't seem that difficult to stop. They've beaten the teams that they should but their only win against a quality opponent was at KState last year when the KState was in the midst of a three game slide.

I'm gonna sit on the sidelines on this one with my UNDER shirt on and hope that Ohio State represents well, but too many new faces in big roles make it tough for me to put money on the Buckeyes.

I think Tech is vasly overrated coming into this season. They had a couple of nice efforts against the 'top' teams in the Big 12, beating K-St and A&M..but both of those teams were in down years. Iowa beat them in their bowl game...which was in Texas and on artificial turf if I remember correctly. They even lost to Kansas at home...that was a terrible loss.

And I'm not a big fan of Klingsbury either...if you throw the ball 44 times per game you had better get 300 yards passing...and his completion percentage is so high because most of his passes are under 7 yards...dink and dunk.

the dink and dunks are fine...its the recievers who have to make something out of it...YAC - Yards After Catch...Fresno had a ton of that last night...they dinked and dunked...they kept throwing that swing pass too...worked majority of the time...

hellah10 - since no one is going to respond to your statement about Minn, which I hope was a joke, then yes... outside of Minnesota you are the only person picking them to win the conference. Also being a big Bucks fan I'm big on Vance as anyone but if there is one position that we are deepest it is WR. Some may argue that RB with all of the young guys but with Jenkins, who is bigger and stronger (6-5, 200 vs. 6-2, 180) than Vance and had a better year they will be fine. Add in Chris Gamble who will get a chance to shine, Drew Carter, Roy Hall, a FR who will eventually be the best of them all and the Bucks are fine throwing over the smaller TT DB's. Weather biggest factor as 70% chance of rain, which makes ball control and short outs biggest factor in game. Anxious to see '02 Tressel year begins with such a young team but UNDER in game looks like the best play here...

Thanks for the input...trust me I know allll about Gamble and and Carter...I get sick of it really...everybody up here is a OSU fan...cant go down a street and not find an OSU flag. So Iam well aware of the depth. And no I was not joking about Minnesota winning the big 10...this is there best chance....they have great talent...sure they lose Redmon and Johnson...but I think they have a tough defense - hell they almost beat your bucks last year.

Good Luck

Well Hella you got to see a football game and now what do you think of the buckeyes? All the question marks are gone and I would say that if they can play at that level all year they are going to finish up right where they were predicted to Big Ten Champs.

BTW How if toledo going to be this year. After losing their great rb will they be able to put up the points they did last year. I loved watching them play because it was always a track meet. That guy was awesome.

your first question - What I honestly think of the Bucks....they didnt impress me. This game reminded me of the Northwestern game...great QB and WRs buttt they could not tackle. Those holes were HUGE...part of being a good run defense is that you MUST get off those blocks...Tech didnt do that...at all. They were being fooled all game long by play action....by counters...and by the delayed hand offs. Of course, I thought Tech was gonna win because Iam a big fan of the spread offense...gotta stop betting with my heart :p When they face a tough D that Michigan or Iowa or Penn St is gonna bring...you wont see that 18 year old have a hole 7 yards wide.....Krenzel did however shocked me with his mobility...last season he didnt move a lick...he must of worked on that in the offseason. I still say that Minnesota will shock alot of people. But I dont think OSU will win the Big 10....I see them going 8-5, loses

- Washington St
- Purdue
- Michigan
- Minnesota
- Penn St

Tressels conservative play will bite him in the ass. Look for Cincy to give them a battle. Cincy has a HELL of a QB - Gino Gudiali...he rip Toledos secondary in half in the bowl game last year. Very mobile. Cincy has a good D as well...with Antawan Peek returning.

Your second question regarding Toledo...we are gonna struggle. We have one of the best recruiting classes Toledo has ever gotten. We grabbed another running back...this guy is from Texas and led the state is rushing yards. He turned down scholarships from Oklahoma, LSU, and Texas A&M....he wanted to go to Wisconsin or Michigan and nobody in the Big 10 wanted him. So Toledo talked to him...and bam he`s with us. We can probably thnak Chester Taylor for bringing him. HE`s gonna be our next great running back....we have had 3 great runners since 94 (Tait, Harris and Taylor). At QB we dont know whats going on. The coaches finally announced the starter(Brian Jones)...I dont like this guy...as in personally...when I was still on the team he made me do all this shit as if I was his bitch...fawk that guy I hope Matt Robillard form Miami(OH) fawks him up sooo bad that he`ll be out for the season. We have this JUCO transfer who I think should start...he probably will when everybody finds out Jones sucks. We alos have this freshman QB who went to the saem high school as Marino :D Our secondary sucks....we have the best LBs in the MAC and we gotta replace our front 4 on the DL. Iam just hoping we dont lose a game at home...we havent lost in 2.5 years :(

oh yea by the way...the kicker sucks too!! :D :D they will need me!! :p

On the course!
Five losses?

Yipes!

They will not fall easily this season, and I can't see the Gophers being anywhere near the best team in the Big 10
