Yahoo had a blog about the incident....and had over 1,200 responses....including SEVERAL from Tom, Dick, and Harry that said something like this:

"You mean to tell me you can bet on games AFTER they start! I'm going to move to that country next week!! All this time I could have been betting on baseball games, in which a team was up by 10 runs with two outs in the 9th inning?! A football team running the clock out in the 4th quarter, up 38-3?! What kind of IDIOT sportsbooks would allow a bet to be made AFTER the game or match has begun. I have been betting in American for almost my whole life and this would never be allowed in Vegas! The idiot sportsbooks across the pond have nobody to blame but themselves for accepting the bets after the match begins."

I don't have a Yahoo account, so I didn't respond. But, yes, I did read through all the posts and not one person knew that in-match wagering actually existed!
Ignorance is bliss?

Their posts were hysterical....."my bookie in Philly would never accept a bet or a phone call after the game started."

I don' think the majority of American gamblers (Joe Q. Public) even realize that in-progress betting exists. Now that they do, they still think it doesn't make sense because they think you get the same line and odds as you did before the game/match started...and you know the score!!
LOL
I wanted to explain to them that yes, you can bet on blowout games and matches at these sportsbooks well after the match has started...but at adjusted odds-lines-prices. If you want to put up $100,000 to win $100 that a team won't blow a 6-2 hockey lead in the 3rd period, be my guest!
Or, you can put up $100 to win $50,000 that the other team won't come back from the 6-2 deficit.

I didn't have the energy, patience, or Yahoo account to post a reply, but I wanted to share this with you fellow REAL gamblers here at Madjacks. Either we know WAY too much about gambling....or the public (who THINKS they know a lot about gambling) knows too little.
Probably a combination of both!

Of course she could have but she didn't want to.

Her quote after the match was something to that effect
"I could have finished, but I would not have been able to play tomorrow. I felt my opponent deserved to move on in the tournament"

My question is, then why play the second set to 5-0?
I mean, at what point does she decide to pull the plug?

Silly business.

I asked a colleague of mine, who used to play against the big boys, what the proper tennis etiquette was. He told me you playuntil you get to match point...then you retire.
Anyway, there's many different ways you can look at this. From both a gambling perspective and an ethical perspective.
I think she was trying to do something nice. SHOULD she have finihsed the match? Probably. COULD she have? Definitely.

Uncle............I played on the tour and that quote about "play to until you get to match point...then you retire" is a stupid quote, makes no sense. None, zip, zero.

Although I wish when I played, guys that were up 5-0 on me would retire, would have loved that. Would have won a lot of matches if that was the case:142smilie

And as I have said many times on here:

From a gambling perspective.....sometimes a player retiring makes you money, sometimes it costs you money. It all evens out, or that's what they say anyway:SIB

All I know is that I lost a BUNDLE on Wozniacki on that match. Once the first set is complete, the book I used to make the wager counts it as a match. And I think that is the right thing to do. I am hurting right now because of it......but, as kickserv said, sometimes you win those, sometimes you lose those. And, with some books, sometimes you cancel those!

-Wozniacki was in total control of the match
-Wozniacki did not appear injured at all
-I do not speak Polish

So, I sat on my bet.

That's life!

Anyway, kicksevr....I didn't say I agreed with this guy.....I just made the comment that that's what he told me the etiquette was.
So, you've never heard of that before? Maybe he was blowing smoke up my ass and there is no etiqutte for retiring with the lead? What would you have done?
Thoughts?

woz is a skitz

you should know this from her match history

i remember i had $1400 on her to win an easy "$100"

but she lost a set and half to 38 year old kimiko date krumm, first match out of retirement

had to stay away from betting the hottie after that

but she's great to look at
