The American League East division moves back into baseball?s spotlight this week, as the New York Yankees host the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles host the Toronto Blue Jays in four-game series that start on Monday and conclude on Thursday.

Boston currently holds a half-game advantage over New York in the AL East standings. Toronto is 2.5 games behind the BoSox, while Baltimore is 8.5 games back of the pace. The Red Sox and Yankees have each won seven of their past 10 games, with Boston taking two from Detroit on the weekend and New York managing to top Baltimore twice. The Blue Jays have won six of their last 10, while the O?s have split their last 10 games.

The Red Sox and Yankees have met on the field seven times this season, with Boston picking up wins in four of those games. In their most recent set, however, the Yankees took two of the three games at Fenway Park. This time the series will be taking place in the Bronx, where the Red Sox are 2-1 this season and have outscored New York 22-13.

Here are the complete gaming results from the Boston/New York contests this season:

May 01 --- Yankees 3 at Red Sox 7 --- Boston +110, UNDER --- Wang at Wakefield

May 09 --- Red Sox 14 at Yankees 3 --- New York -150, OVER --- Beckett at Johnson

May 23 --- Yankees 7 at Red Sox 5 --- Boston -155, OVER --- Wright at Wakefield

May 24 --- Yankees 8 at Red Sox 6 --- Boston -120, OVER --- Johnson at Clement

And the probable pitching matchups for this four-game series break down as follows:

Monday: Josh Beckett (7-2, 4.46) vs. Mike Mussina (7-1, 2.42)

Tuesday: David Pauley (0-0, 12.46) vs. Chien-Ming Wang (5-2, 4.82)

Wednesday: Curt Schilling (8-2, 3.86) vs. Jaret Wright (3-3, 4.12)

Thursday: Tim Wakefield (4-7, 4.05) vs. Randy Johnson (7-4, 5.33)

The Orioles and Blue Jays have met only five times so far in the 2006 season, with Toronto winning three of those five contests. This week?s series will be taking place at Camden Yards, where the O?s and Jays played a mini, two-game set earlier in the year. Toronto won the first game by a 9-7 score, then were thumped 9-2 in the second game.

May 01 --- Blue Jays 9 at Orioles 7 --- Baltimore -110, OVER --- Lilly at Bedard

May 02 --- Blue Jays 2 at Orioles 9 --- Baltimore -120, OVER --- Janssen at Benson

Thursday: Roy Halladay (7-1, 2.81) vs. Bruce Chen (0-5, 7.71)

And no, we haven?t forgotten about the American League East?s other team, the Tampa Bay Devils (although believe us, we?ve tried). The cellar-dwelling D-Rays get a visit from the Los Angeles Angels this week, before hitting the road for a series versus the Kansas City Royals. Rays vs. Royals? Talk about your must-see baseball action - don?t miss it!
