ALCS and NLCS beckon baseball bettors
Oct. 11, 2007

Baseball bettors are in their glory with the ALCS and NLCS getting underway, as four teams battle to advance to the 2007 World Series.

betED.com is offering a number of bets on the ALCS, which pits the Boston Red Sox against the Cleveland Indians, and the NLCS, which has the Colorado Rockies taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Red Sox are 170-moneyline favorites to take the best-of-seven ALCS, while the Rockies are 135-favorites to win the NLCS.

Boston is favored (-160) to win Game 1 of the series on Friday, while the Diamondbacks are favored (-138) to take the series opener at home tonight.

betED.com has the Red Sox favored to win the World Series (+110), followed by the Indians (+200), the Rockies (+250) and the Diamondbacks (+400).

The AL Central Champion Indians defeated the New York Yankees 3-1 in the ALDS, while the Red Sox, the AL East Champions, swept the LA Angels of Anaheim 3-0 in their ALDS.

Boston and Cleveland tied for the best record in the major leagues this season at 96-66, but because the Red Sox won the season series, 5-2, they will hold home-field advantage.

These teams are very familiar with each other in postseason play, having met three times before in the divisional round. The Indians won two of those series, but the Red Sox got the best of them in five games the last time they squared off in 1999.

The red-hot Rockies, the NL Wild Card winner, have been streaking since mid-September, entering this series having won 17 of their last 18 games. But Colorado's lone loss in that span came at the hands of the NL West-champion Diamondbacks.

Colorado carried its strong play down the stretch into the NLDS against Philadelphia, as the wild card Rockies swept the Phillies in three games to win their first-ever postseason series. Arizona, meanwhile, also swept its way through the NLDS, beating the Chicago Cubs in three straight to reach the NLCS for only the second time in team history.

The Rockies and Diamondbacks are no stranger to one another. Colorado won the season series, 10-8, while outscoring Arizona, 86-72. However, 12 of the games were decided by two runs or less, with each team winning six.
