Ramirez stuns Alekseev!

Underdog claims WBO interim cruiser belt

By Wolfgang Schiffbauer at ringside

In the first huge shocker of 2009, highly touted cruiserweight hope Alexander Alekseev was stopped by unknown Argentinian Victor Emilio Ramirez after nine hard-fought rounds for the WBO interim cruiserweight title. Alekseev started well, keeping the distance and outboxing Ramirez in the first couple rounds. The Argentinian, however, managed to get some hard shots in at times while marching forward with bulldog-like aggression. The tide turned in the sixth when Alekseev got caught by some big bodyshots and was wobbled. The Russian came back in the seventh with a body shot himself that stunned Ramirez. Afterwards, it was the Argentinian who bullrushed Alekseev around the ring and connected with hard shots in the eight before wobbling the Spotlight fighter around the ring in the ninth, scoring with huge shots that had Alekseev out of his feet. The Russian was not able to get the momentum back and was almost down at the end of the round, eating punches in bunches. After the ninth, the corner of the Russian decided it was enough and threw in the towel, making it a tenth round TKO victory for the underog Victor Emilio ?El Tyson del Abasto? Ramirez. Suffering his first career loss, Alekseev falls to 16-1. Scoring the big upset, Ramirez moves to 14-1 with 12 K.o.?s, capturing the WBO interim belt.

Hindsight is commod...
I thought too Alekseev was a lock....until i saw the Argentinian's resume and picture...:scared

Tough break

On the flip side, Alekseev did not sustain a career ending beating/ ko, and we're going to get better odds on him

I go 6 and 1 in the UFC and that fuk-face Alekseev ruins a huge weekend

I picked all the hard ones right, and AGAIN, lost on a -1500 !

WHEN WILL I ADJUST THIS STRATEGY?

Ghost, you need to try to research more each oponnent; in this case, we had a nearly undefeated puncher fighting for an interim title; the guy comes to win, not like Calloway.

He was in line for the title; the over/ under made more sense than the ridiculous straight odds.

totally hear you bro and I appreciate the criticism
I can only grow, learn and get better
I have been VERY impressed with Alekseev, but made the bet on him.
Always need to do balanced research on both sides.
One thing I noticed is the Argentine had a split verdict against a scrub. With so little footage on the guy, I let that split decision way in too much.

I also made most of my bets early in the week. Once footage of this cat begain to appear (he landed late in Germany and missed the press conference), I started to have real concerns. Never EVER thought he would lose though.

and he did.

Evan IS on collazo (strictly value betting). I considered Berto @-500 as I feel he wins straight out but I could also see Berto getting frustrated in there. Let's face it, Collazo beat Hatton regardless of the cards. But I think berto will be able to hurt Collazo where as Hatton was not able to. I like Berto by 116-112 variety. A stoppage would be very impressive

It was not a bad pick Ghost. Alekseev looked like a wrecking machine fighting some bum with a padded record from a piss poor country.
As just turned out, this country bum could actually fight and Alekseev is not used to going many rounds.

My advise would still be to stay away from REALLY HEAVY favourites as it only takes 1 out of 10 upsets to completely derail your bank book.

thanks weepaul
I really appreciate your advice (as well as you crow)

paulile, I remember months back... your post about a friend of yours who was a great fight picker...but then he started getting destroyed laying the big favorites

I'm falling into this trap a bit...I stand by the pick
but I am FURIOUS at myself for not insuring my bankroll...a mere 20 bucks on Ramirez would have gotten at 200 back...

I've been working a lot of hours and didn't do the research necessary here....but also, this was really BAD LUCK
:mj07:

It's a bit disheartening because I went 6 and 1 in the UFC, and got nothing to show for it

Berto can change that tonight...

On a side note...I work Saturdays and they have been busting my freaking balls today....thanks for keeping me sane here guys....the madjack board is my only peace of mind when I have to work 14 hours on a Saturday

I enjoy hearing all the thoughts, celebrations, and criticisms...live and learn
cheers
