Outright plays (total stake per play: 1pt)

Raphael Jacquelin to win 33/1 e.w. @ SkyBet and BlueSq
The Frenchman will look to make it two wins in two weeks for France on this Tour following Van de Velde's victory last week. And the omens are good. After finishing 11th in the Dubai Desert Classic, he was well-placed in the Johnnie Walker Classic for three rounds, closed with a 62 to finish 3rd in the Malaysian Open and only lost out on a playoff for the Hassan Trophy II in Morocco. Since then, he has spent time with his family and if he can return to the Tour with the form that he showed before his break, he will have a very strong chance, particularly as he has played well on this course in the past and he secured his maiden Tour victory on the Iberian Peninsula last October in the Open de Madrid.

David Lynn to win 33/1 e.w. @ Victor Chandler and William Hill
Lynn is another with good form in this part of Europe and particularly in this event, having finished 8th, 5th and 21st in the last three years. His top-5 finish was when the event was played on this week's course and he played well enough to enter the final round in the final group and tied for the lead with the eventual winner, Miguel Angel Jimenez. And with finishes of 10th, 8th, 19th and 21st in his four starts this year, he should feature once again on the leaderboard this week and be in contention for his second European Tour title.

Ricardo Gonzalez to win 33/1 e.w. @ Ladbrokes and BetDirect
Very surprised to see Gonzalez at these odds. His form in Iberia is the best of the three selections, with no missed cuts in 18 events since 2000 and that includes two wins in the 2003 Open de Madrid and the 2004 Open de Sevilla. He has played on this course once (1999) and finished in the top-10 on that occasion, which was his best performance on the European Tour up to that date and in his last six starts, he has finished 5th, 6th, 4th, 4th, 28th and 1st. That victory came last week in the Abierto de Mesopotamia Copa Personal in Argentina. Difficult to see him not being in contention this week.

Raphael Jacquelin(35/1) e.w. @ GolfingGods
- - When I last caught up with Jacquelin, the story begins with my catching glimpses of his play during the 2nd (next to last) round in Malaysia, and me saying to myself more than once, "He's swinging beautifully and knows it"; I was then caught up in something or other before the final round, and I never looked at the lines and matchups for the next day; that next day I only caught glimpses of the telecast (if it was delayed, I don't think I knew the outcome), and there's Jacquelin playing a handful of shots - all flawless, as I recall - during the course of a closing 62. Since then, I guess he's gone on and lost out on a playoff for the Hassan Trophy II in Morocco . . . Jacquelin has been in similar zones before that had some legs, and I'll let him carry the banner for France on the heels of Van De Velde's triumph. (Note: The wager is in, but from looking at some of the current lines and the tee times, it appears the Frenchman is out.)

Jean Van De Velde(66/1) e.w. @ Bet365
- - I simply wouldn't pick up the wager from under the marker of a winning inside bet on a Roulette table, and it would be bad form or a brain fart to pick up the chips left behind from this winning wager if it carried just half this price.

Richard Finch(50/1)(1/5 for 1-2-3-4-5-6) e.w. @ BetFred
- - With no telecast from last week to build or assess something stronger around, nothing from last week or from my research justifies not sticking to my guns and singling out Finch for his current form and his increasingly seasoned capabilities for stepping up and threatening a spot in the winner's enclosure.

Johan Edfors(66/1) e.w. @ Sportingbet
- - Bad policy to look for anything from the likes of him in this spot, but that's the way I'm going over Gonzalez(25/1), Molinari(40/1), Lara(60/1) and Canete(150/1).

Ariel Canete(150/1) e.w. @ GolfingGods
- - With one Frenchman apparently out, my Argentinian of choice (likely the wrong one) comes in.

FINAL RESULT: 1-1; +2.63pts

Jacquelin dns
Lynn 36th
Gonzalez 4th

There was a sense of foreboding about this on Saturday. Gonzalez shot the round of the day to close to within a shot of Broadhurst and it looked the perfect position for him to end the day. But Broadhurst who play the last three holes very poorly and it was Gonzalez who started the final day with a one-shot lead and he is not a player to lead from the front so early. In fact, he three-putted the first hole on Sunday and by the third hole was two shots behind and was never a threat. If only Broadhurst hadn't bottled it a day early!

European Tour ytd: 4-10; +11.76pts
