So, just flew back from a reorganization meeting at HQ.

My role has significantly changed. I'll be on the road nationwide now until I burn out... That said, I'm looking for a GPS unit to put in the rental cars as I drive all over this country doing quality control.:142smilie

Anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to keep it under $200 with tax.

Thanks,

Lower management

I have a Garmin Nuvi. Works fine. Does not have traffic recognition or anything fancy, but the new ones might. I have used it for 2 years w/o incident. I use is all over LA and Gulf coast regularly, as well as in Hawai'i last year. I paid roughly 179+ tax at Best Buy. I recommend this unit.

I had owned a Magellan previously, but found that it froze up quite a bit. It was also pretty bulky, but that was 2005-2006, so those are probably smaller now.

Good luck.....

I've had a Magellan 1200 I purchased from Tiger Direct about 2 years ago. It is a basic GPS with no bells and whistles and cost about $120 new. It has worked great, getting me from house to house in rural areas of NC.

The one thing that I don't like is that it doesn't recognize roads that were completed in 2006 and map updates cost $79.95! Updates are certainly something to consider when buying one.

Thanks everyone. Going with the Garmin 255W. It includes a touch 4.3 in screen and traffic redirect. It's 149 and has a lifetime for updates.

Looks to be solid.

Thanks again.

I just use my phone - Garmin has a Blackberry app that's pretty good. Verizon Navigator just pushed an update and it works better than the last. iPhone has tons of GPS apps. Beats the heck out carrying extra stuff.

Thanks Ryson. My company uses Blackberry phones and the google app is way to slow.

Also we have a policy of having to use a bluetooth while driving. Looking at a phone is similar to texting, blah, blah, blah... so they won't pay for it...
