Any of you guys have had one of your parents diagnosed with it. My mom was on Tuesday and she is getting worse. Any advice on dealing with it would be greatly appreciated.

Jigs my father has it and my wife seems to be coming down with it. The thing is you have to show patience. They repeat a lot of questions and do things wrong but you have to remember that it is not their fault. Good luck.

It?s a horrible disease.

I think the most important thing is routine. Do the same things at the same times every day. This helps them retain what memory they have to be as independent as possible. Memory books also are helpful.

Specialized memory care centers (nursing homes) are no better. It?s understandable if a person with Alzheimer?s needs care outside their home. It?s a difficult task. If it comes to that, just don?t be fooled into thinking places specialize in it and are any better.

Thanks for responses guys. It's going to be a rough for our family. The worst will be for my Dad, they have been married for 57 years. Your right SixFive, it is a terrible disease.

My father in law was diagnosed at 49. Yes, 49. Watched him and us suffer before passing away over 10 years later. I'm so sorry for you guys it is truly a difficult road, and one that only those who have walked with you will truly understand.
