Now I dont know what it is...but I just dont get it. Is there a family out there like that!? Iam I the only person in America that never opens the curtains? Holy crap what in the hell was that...what a wierd movie.

its just another way of saying beauty is subjective and things aren't always the way they seem/appear

I don't see why anyone would not like American Beauty. It was awesome. Another great movie with Kevin Spacey is The Usual Suspects. Great cast, terrific movie. Check it out if you haven't already.

"American Beauty" was great!! Kevin Spacey was awesome!!! Oh yah, if American Beauty made u sick, u should watch the movie "Happiness." It really shows you the sick nasty underbelly of what really happens in perverted, nasty lives behind closed doors. It's sick but entertaining and I'm sure happens a lot, but we just don't see it.

My fav movieS of 2001 was:
"Bubble Boy" and "Shallow Hal." I'm going to see Lord of the Rings, I heard it was great!!

hellah,
Watch "Shallow Hal." My fav comedy of 2001. The two main guys in the movie can't get much action, but they both have the same taste in hot women. It's about Hal, who plays this very shallow guy and his friend scoping clubs for the hottest women they can find, and Hal gets a spell put on him in which when he sees dog ugly women, he sees them as very hot ladies, so he pays attention to them instead of just ignoring them. These ugly women, he now sees as hot, he ends up realizing they have more to them than what he thinks he sees in just the outside, in which he not only wants to sleep with them, but wants to get to know them on a deeper level. However, the spell is taken off later in the movie and he goes thru a transformation and he is never the same guy like he used to be when he finds out the hot girl(gwyneth paltrow) he was going out with, is actually this huge fat woman, that he would have never given the time to if he saw her that way in the first place. however, he has fallen in love with her, but now he doesn't know what to do cause he now sees her for how she(a fat ugly gwyneth with hollywood fat suit) really is, so he tries to avoids her and makes like he don't have time for her anymore. He also sees others he met in their true form that he got to know and he realizes that running around chasing hot girls and having flings was exciting, but just maybe being with one woman, even though not considered hot, is something that could really truly satisfy him, so he tries to go after the girl. There is a scene in the hospital when he meets a young girl that he met earlier in the movie, in which changes Hal in the way he look at certain people and the girl, after realizing it was the girl he met earlier..... very powerful scene. You will know what I'm talking about when u see it. I won't say how it ends, but most who is shallow or vain and only goes after hot girls, will atleast kind of alter the way they perceive others or themselves after watching this movie. It made me think twice about the way I see things...heh heh. Sounds like a drama, but it was very funny movie overall. I definitely recommend it.

"American Beauty" is one of my favorite movies ever. It is a bit wierd and can be sort of depressing, but it contains some great acting. It is full of dark humor and irony. I would not call it a family movie by any means, but I think it is more representive of the suburban family dynamic than you think (unfortunately). Call me strange, but I loved that movie. I actually thought it was funny! My wife would agree with you though. She hated it.

I loved American Beauty. Plenty of middle aged guys can identify with it. If you don't get it, just wait a couple of decades and you will.

Amen, about 42 it starts to sink in. But it can be a little strung out at times.
