Phil Mickelson's wife, Amy, has been diagnosed with breast cancer, and the three-time major champion says he will suspend his PGA Tour schedule indefinitely.

Mickelson's management company says Amy Mickelson will begin treatment with major surgery as early as the next two weeks.

They were married in 1996 and have three children.

Mickelson was to play the Byron Nelson Championship this week, and defend his title next week at Colonial.

Good luck to Amy and Phil and the whole Mickelson family from a fan of his and also from someone dealing with cancer himself. God bless.

My dad survived Cancer. It's really interesting that Phil pulled out today, so this news must be fresh.. and its not a secret that they have been hiding.

Good luck to the all American family.

Sorry to hear about that Chip :( The best of luck to you!

Hardly a family seems to escape cancer these days. My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer a month ago. It used to be the case that it almost only affected women over the age of 50. Not any more. :nooo:

Stanley.....my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 at the age of 39. We are both now 51 and she is in perfect health and still the best looking woman in the room. I have no doubt she will outlive me.
Hang in there...at times it sucks more for the husband because you feel so damn helpless. The treatment and all the shitty parts is over before you know it.
Apologies for the rest of you guys to have to read this...if the site had private messaging, I would have sent one to Stanley.

Thanks, Stanley, I appreciate it and best of luck to you and your wife. Always hate to hear someone else dealing with it after what I've been thru. I pray she beats it.

I also hear what you say when under the age of 50. Somehow I am one of the rare cases of final stage four for my type of cancer under the age of 50. Actually, it wasn't when I was told I had the cancer that blew me away, but it was when they said it was already stage four.

However, I'm here enjoying another golf season with you and the rest of the great characters on this site so anything is possible. Stay positive and God bless.

Jeez, stage four. That would be a body blow. :(

Like you said, it's important to have a positive outlook in life, though that can be difficult at times when backing some of these so-called golfers! ;)

My father had stage 4 cancer and he was able to beat it, thank god. GL Chip!

Thanks Derrick for the support and glad your father was able to beat it despite the advanced stage. What type was his? Mine is colon cancer. Again, odds against you in stage four but I'm battling and currently doing well.

Stanley, you are right. It can be frustrating backing some of these golfers but that's what makes it fun. Of course I was going to cut back on the number of plays and ended up playing more than ever.

The frustrating part for me is consistently, the last match I cutoff always seems to win so where do you draw the line?

My last match I wanted but cut :

Tom Pernice Jr. over Billy Mayfair @ - 110.

Both are playing poorly but think Pernice was up by two strokes. I know it's early but this is one I'll be following to see if the streak of frustration continues. Can't root against it because I saw Another Steve has it and I don't root for others to lose their bets. Both may get cut so I should know by tomorrow. We'll see.

I try to pick and chose my spots. This week i saw 10 plays that i liked, but i was out of town since saturday so i hadnt seen or read any articles, so i chose quality over quantity.

He also had colon cancer, they caught it when he had a colonoscopy.

One thing that i think will make people a better capper is to be proactive instead of reactive. Yes, Adam Scott has missed 5 cuts in a row, but try to catch it before everyone is on the bandwagon, maybe notice poor ball striking stats for a week, or a high round, don't wait for a couple mc's then try to fade him because the bookies will have caught up, and the value is shot.
Same goes for backing a player, maybe he shoots a great weekend score..
