washburn vs. sele

washburn shows quite an improvement over his last 4 games, with a very respectable 2.67 era, as opposed to his season era of 4.29, not only that, but in his last outing he went a full 8 innings, while allowing 3 er. seattle's b.a. is "only" .266 vs. lefties, as opposed to .291 vs. righties, and their rbi production is substantially lower against lefties.

washburn does have a previous game vs. seattle, at seattle earlier this year, where he got rocked for 5 runs in 5 innings, but.....his first 4 games were just disastrous, carrying an era of 7. he has come a long way since.

sele has yet to get back to his earlier form, having been hit hard in his last 3 games, and showing an era of 5.24 in his last 4 games. about the only bright spot in his favor is that he has a 3.31 era in his last 4 at home. his last game was especially brutal, were he allowed 10 hits and 6 er in 4 innings, yet getting away with a no-decision.

taking into account the "fear" factor of betting against seattle, at +175 this game represents decent value. i value it at seattle -140, and thus a play.

anaheim +175
