NASHVILLE -- Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was selected as the top overall pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday at the NHL entry draft.

The Penguins acquired the first overall pick from the Florida Panthers, who acquired Pittsburgh's third overall selection and Mikael Samuelsson.

It was Pittsburgh's first overall selection in the draft since 1984, the year the Pens selected Mario Lemieux.

Penguins general manager Craig Patrick said he wasn't sure if Fleury would jump straight to a starting role next season.

"It's hard to say," Patrick said during ESPN2's broadcast. "I doubt it. We'll have to see how he does at training camp."

Meanwhile, Fleury becomes just the second goaltender to be drafted with the No. 1 overall pick. Rick DiPietro was the first, selected by the New York Islanders in 2000
