I'm tired of people going after this dude for HIS performance this weekend. I mean, seriously, that's a joke. I can't believe how ignorant some fans are getting these days. They are so spoiled and they think they know EVERYTHING and they don't...

Here's a GREAT explination from Soares on this weekends fight....

http://mmajunkie.com/news/14640/whi...ilva-and-soares-satisfied-with-ufc-97-win.mma

"I take nothing away from Thales Leites. He did everything he possibly could. But if [the UFC] wants to see engaging, if they want to see an exciting fight, then put somebody that's going to charge him and fight. It's not the champion's responsibility to fall into the challenger's game to make it seem like an interesting fight. He's the champion."

Soares said future challengers are the ones responsible for dealing with Silva's style ? not the other way around.

"These guys need to prepare themselves to take the belt from him," Soares said. "It's not his responsibility to figure out what the challenger does and go and try to make it exciting.

"[Silva] tried to make an exciting fight. It's not his fault that he would come within two inches of the guy and the guy would fall to his back. That's not our problem."

You could condone it for the first couple rounds. But
by rounds 4 and 5 (when Leites had nothing), Silva's behavior was an embarrassment.

At one point, he stopped hitting him and just stood up for no apparent reason. Literally-just stopped and stood up and backed off. Weird.

I am pretty positive Silva wanted this thing to go the distance. Not sure why, but it was as fixed a performance as you will.

Not one knee the entire fight. Not one attempt to finish in 25 minutes. At the moments where he did hurt Leites, he looked surprised and backed off.

Very strange fight. I don't care to see it ever again.

Anderson should be ashamed of that performance, he was awful. Could have finished Leites 100 times, guy should be ashamed of himself, enough said. How anyone could defend Anderson is beyond me, what fight were you guys watching:shrug:

If that was some guy in the prelims the UFC would have cut him. Wake up Sponge, you are way off on this one....way off.

Joe Silva and Leites deserve lots of the blame, but the Spider was pathetic. Again, just think, if he was some guy making his debut he would have been cut.

Silva was a disgrace, yes he clearly won and was the better fighter. But "dicking around" like he did disgraced the sport. It is a FIGHT, finish the guy.

Anderson #1 pound for pound, umm yeah ok:rolleyes:

i blame both

Silva could have broken this dude down and ended it

but he wanted the spectacular knockout from his feet

he didn't want to get dirty messing around in Leites guard

"the bunker"
truthfully, imo, leites should have been docked a point for not engaging...if you want to stop this, dock the challenger a point....he`s gotta "take" the title, right?...

that`s how it used to be with ali....

it`s amazing.....to a guy who suffered through the muhammad ali era...particularly his later career...

the guy held, laid against the ropes for 2:45 of every round while the challenger tried to be aggressive....

then ali threw a flurry or two at the end of a round, the idiot judges awarded him the round and the politically correct media went into a frenzy...

ali was never the problem....he didn`t even have to fight....he just had to exist....

he laid the groundworrk for such wonderful boxing staples as the rope-a-dope and john ruiz style punching and holding... a real boon to boxing...

i guess perception is everything....one guy is the eternal hero...and the other, regardless of how many impressive, violent wins he`s had,is the goat because he`s not willing to fight the other guy`s fight...he has to win every fight...even fight stupidly tactical fights because otherwise,he`s garbage...in spite of holding the ufc record for successive wins and beating a who-s who in the division...

he`s not entitled to a couple pedestrian fights...

/just my opinion....sorry,the older ali always bugged me..shouldn`t have started in on that...

HELL
Silva isn't running around stating he is the best P4P. He is the Champ, one must take it from him. He's earned that right. Should he have finished Leites, probably, but why put yourself in harms way when the guy doesn't want to fight. We are all mad at the fight, shit I had a houseful of guests for this PPV and 2 of them were sleeping during this fight.

ur insane. Time after time Silva got in Leittes face and the fuker wouldn't throw a punch,. The guy didnt want to fight and was scared shitless. I hope ur boy GSP gets in there and bull rushes him like u want and then we will see the end of GSP. Did u want Silva just to dive on top of him? I know u are a fan and like to see every fight like Lidell/Wvandy but its not gonna happen and those two might be lucky if they can talk in 20 years.

Mayweather has made a career out of this but i think Silva at least tried to engage numerous times. Floyd just drove me nuts.

Sponge......spin it all you want, Anderson put on a horrible performance, he had many opportunities to finish Leites.

Leites and Joe Silva deserve tons of blame, but Silva was just playing around, it was pathetic.

Silva is an incredible fighter, his performance was a disgrace (along with Leites).

It's being blown out of proportion because of Anderson's previous fight, and on top of his career in the UFC so far. Fans expect the same results because he's THAT good.

Honestly, if GSP and Anderson meet up, GSP won't stand with him, and will try to take him down....will you boo him then if he doesn't try to goto the mat with GSP?? Or will you critcise GSP for not pushing the pace on their feet?

No doubt in my mind that Anderson would beat GSP via KO/TKO.

Just no way can GSP beat any legitimate top 5 UFC MW...especially considering GSP has NEVER faced guys who could legitimately move to MW as all of GSP opponents are WW or now, LW.

i just dont see it that way. Now if u were talking about the Cote fight then i might agree with ya. Cote at least time and time again tried to make a fight of it. Lietes at no time tried to make this a fight. Go to bed for gods sakes :142smilie

Can't go to bed....GSP not home yet, he gets mad if I don't tuck him in.

And yes, Leites and Joe Silva deserve most of the blame, but Anderson should be ashamed of his performance, that's all I am saying.

Can't wait for the GSP/Anderson fight, that shit won't be boring, GSP will be all over him, be far from boring.
