Animal Kingdom the 2-1 Favorite in the Preakness
A full field of 14 is set to go on Saturday in the 136th running of the Preakness Stakes. Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom is the 2-1 favorite on the morning line with two other Derby horses, beaten favorite Dialed In and third place finisher Mucho Macho Man the next two choices in the betting odds at 9-2 and 6-1 respectively.

Two weeks ago in the Kentucky Derby it was Animal Kingdom going off at 20-1. He is now given a lot more respect and is the favorite at 2-1. Animal Kingdom will start from post #11 which pleased his trainer Graham Motion who said that starting from that post is a great spot. Just on his inside of Animal Kingdom will be Dialed In who has the #10 post while Mucho Macho Man has post #9.
The Kentucky Derby two weeks ago was run at such a slow pace that many of the closers didn?t have much of a chance. Animal Kingdom didn?t seem to mind though as he was flying late to win. Nick Zito, who trains Dialed In said that a fast pace should definitely benefit his horse in the Preakness betting. He should have to worry about a lack of pace on Saturday as speed horses like Astrology, Flashpoint and Shackleford should be out fast. They are all starting from the inside so it should be quite a speed duel early. That could set things up for a closer like Dialed In or Animal Kingdom.
There are only three horses on the morning line with single-digit odds as all of the other 11 horses are listed at 12-1 or more. Animal Kingdom looks to be a good horse that has a chance to win against a poor field but if he struggles there are some big prices that could hit the board in the Preakness including Astrology and Midnight Interlude at 15-1 and King Congie at 20-1.
