I'm flying Tuesday, and I'm dreading it. I have severe allergy stuff going on, and my ears are completely stopped up. I flew one other time with this, and the pressure change was one of the most painful things I have ever experienced. I have taken every OTC and prescription medication I know of, but nothing has helped.

When I swallow, there is not that normal "click" in my ears. They are completely stopped up in I guess the Eustachian tube area.

I have heard of drinking a glass of white wine before takeoff? Any other suggestions? I'm usually the one giving tips on here for things, but this has me stumped. If I'm not better by Tuesday, I might delay my flight, bc I know it will be excruciating. Thanks.

Have you tried hydrogen peroxide poured in.....the bubbling action will eat at the wax, at least that's what mom said when we were growing up......:hat tip:

I was on a flight to Arizona with my daughter and she was in severe pain. The flight attendant used a lemon slice on a damp napkin heated up in a plastic cup and placed it over her ears and she had quick relief. My only other suggestion is an antihistamine and chew gum.

Wonder what the lemon does?

The gum chewing usually does it, but I have no clicking, nothing, not even with a yawn!

Yawning helps.

I once landed in Miami and the pop never unpopped. It was like that the whole week I was in Miami. When I got home I went to the doctor, he gave me drops, and in the morning everything was back to normal. Maybe you have the same thing I did?

I believe the water reacts with the citric acid and when heated releases hydrogen and creates a bit of a vacuum.

If you can complete a valsalva maneuver, you should be able to get through the flight. If you cannot, you're in for a tough day. I have heard that plastic earplugs help, but cannot confirm or deny it's effectiveness.

Hope it works out for you Sir. That sucks. Sorry you could not make dinner last night. That place was OK , but typical sushi place that serves a tiny bit of sushi in rolls that are all rice and filler. Tuna Tartare was a joke as well. Few pieces of tuna with zero mixture, on top of a round patty of crappy rice circles. All in all just disappointing when you are used to good sushi in large cities. Should have had hibachi.

problem is this isn't wax buildup. It's congestion in the inner ear. I have the dizziness and vertigo to go along with it today, so that even sucks more.

Maybe a large dose of Benadryl might do the trick? :0074
