Info on Roger Deago.........
Padres pitcher Adam Eaton is headed to the 15-day DL, and an obscure lefthander, Roger Deago, will be assuming Eaton's start on Saturday vs the Mets at Shea Stadium.

Deago is an exotic replacement. He's 5-foot-8 (or 2 inches shorter than his listed height). Though he's 25, the Panamanian native never played in the minors until last month, when the Padres sent him to Class AA Mobile. He's gone 3-1 with a 3.51 ERA to go with a 3-game hitting streak.

"He's a finesse pitcher who works both sides of the plate," said Tye Waller, the Padres' director of player development. "He can throw strikes and make pitches."

Impressed with Deago's work in international tournaments, including a 17-strikeout outings against an American tream, the Padres issued Deago a $4000 signing bonus in October. He earned his keep in spring training.

Deago's fastball averages 85 mph.

The Padres decided against promoting Class AAA righty Dennis Tankersley and the hottest of the club's pitchers, Carlton Loewer and Randy Keisler, were also passed over.
