Have you had a moment in your life where you narrowly escape death:shrug:

Anybody been like seconds away from death and lived to fight on another day? Or maybe you were told by a doctor you had 3 months to live and now it is year 5 and you are still kickin'?

Any good "I can't believe I am alive" stories:shrug:

Does landing upside down on the freeway in your truck count? Then yeah I had a close call. I would probably still have that Tundra. It does tend to change you.

I was 15 and at my best friends house.

Some guys came through and asked us if we wanted to ride down a New England river in a raft they had made. they had paddles.

It was spring and that river was roaring.

I declined the offer.

Next day read in the paper all five of them drowned. They didn't find their bodies until 3 days later. they had a candlelight vigil at the river bank. I went down there. It was pretty sad.

so I think that counts.

It's funny what you remember - I knew I had posted a story but I also remembered that this was the first time I ever read Shamrock's story.

And this was the first time I ever read YOUR story. By the way I think the plastic surgeon missed a spot.

I was told I almost died when my appendix ruptured, but honestly I doubt it was moments or hours away. It ruptured about 3 days before I went to the ER. Kidneys failed, but hey I was like 28, and if a lot of the stories in the thread you linked teach us anything, it's that a young man's body can take a lot of punishment. Which also happens to be the motto of my dating life. :toast:

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
Had mortar shell explode about 50 yards away as I was showering late one nite in a Quonset hut,
Mekong Delta December 1970.

Was all lathered up, ran out grabbed my M-14, helmet, flack jacket, pants headed to a bunker.....the mosquitoes feasted on me for about 2 hours as we called in an airstrike, the black ponies and cobras put on quite a show...

Looked in shower area next morning, it was peppered with small shrapnel holes.

Driving across Arizona 2009 I unbuckled my seat belt on passenger side, lowered seat, sprawled out and went to sleep.....

My Bud Dave was driving in mid-day around Williams.

A passing truck clipped us at 70mph; we flew thru desert brush, car flipped three, maybe 4 times, we landed in a gully, car upside down.

Airbags did not deploy...I suffered a serious concussion, 2 black eyes. Dave broke his right hand, he was buckled in.

My hats off to the Williams Arizona Volunteer Fire Department. Got there in 15 minutes, carted us to Flagstaff Hospital.

I wear my seatbelt religiously today.
