I'm waiting for the results of my play of the week to post this in my thread, but looks like it might be a while before that happens so here's what I'm thinking about posting for tonights fight...

Corrales-Freitas fight will not go distance -150

Corrales showed off a excellent jab in his second fight with Casamayor and he promises to use it again tonight. Corrales has a 5'' height and reach advantage in this fight, which will definitly cause problems for Popo. I think Freitas will find out very early that boxing on the outside is not his best chance of winning the fight. Which means he will have to counter the jab and try to get inside that long reach of Diego every chance he gets. Freitas will get his ass kicked on the outside and should already know that, if not he will learn it in the first few rounds. So I see this fight turning into a brawl as Frietas knows that is his best chance and Diego has no problem trading shots with anyone.

Notes:

Freitas has been on the canvas in 2 of his last 3 fights!
Freitas was dropped twice by Barrios, once by Ramirez, and once by Nelson. All were within the last 4 years, and none of those guys can punch like Diego. Only Diego can punch like Diego.

Corrales was dropped 3 times in his last 2 fights with Casamayor and was down 5 times in his fight against Mayweather Jr. Both of those fighters are great boxers but neither has the power of Freitas.

In the last 4 years these guys have been dropped a total of 13 times!!!

Neither of these guys play much defence, both have huge power, both like to stand and trade shots, and both have questionable wiskers.

this is one of those fights in which the urge to wager is strong even though i`m as befuddled as the prosecutor in the mark peterson case....

i was thinking maybe throw a few dollars on diego based on his new found jab and defense....along with the height and throwing the straighter punches...goossen really has improved him....

but, then i read articles making solid points for acelino.... about freitas being much the quicker guy....and probably, physically the stronger guy....and that the wide, somewhat wild punches may be as much a help as a hindrance.....maybe early....before they feel one another out....

and ohhhhhhh....that corrales chin.....it`s china, plain and simple......if casamayor can put you on your pants with a jab, look out....

i wonder if stevie forbes has a half a shot?..maybe....getting the thai out of his own backyard.....lol...this is probably a distance fight...

i haven`t a clue on corrales/freitas....

and judging by line movement,i am not alone....

my friend is playing freitas in round 1-3 for +1005....just for the hell of it....he`s been on a roll..

why not...maybe he gets lucky with a wild shot...although my gut says that the early rounds will be fought cautiously...

not likely...but,a tiny little bet...

g.l.,guys...

i hope i`m not the only one that almost jumped through the t.v. set after the ref.....

i have seen so much incompetence in reffing lately that it is mind boggling....

you stop the fight to put the mouth piece back when there`s a lull in the action...not in the midst of a fight altering knockdown.....a 10 count...and then another 15 to 20 seconds on top of that.....lord......

so,he takes a point the second time?.....what if freitas gets a second wind and is able to box his way through the last few rounds?.....i thought he was way,way ahead prior to the knockdowns....i honestly had trouble giving any rounds to corrales...he was getting the shit kicked out of him....

the ref`s stoppage of the fight after a solid knockdown to reinsert a mouth piece that was purposefully spit out was an enormous gaff.....

twice!!!!!!!!!....

the mouthpiece wasn`t knocked out...it was spit out as freitas was getting off the canvas.....

i hope this isn`t ignored because corrales finished the job.....something has to be done....

that said, corrales was very lucky that freitas didn`t have the stamina to box for 12....his chin looked much better....but his feet are horrible...he`s slower afoot than molasses....

and i was a little shocked that freitas threw in the towel...he was totally gassed....he ran for 9 rounds....but,he fought excellently in spurts and was controlling the fight....totally...even though his power didn`t have much affect on corrales....

chico stayed with it....but,he`s lucky freitas didn`t have a little extra in the tank...

a very enjoyable fight...i think it lived up to my expectations...

Corrales showed an excellent chin.

I knew Freitas couldn't keep up that lateral movement for 12 rounds, as he started to tire the momentum went to Corrales. You could tell that Freitas was very scared of Diego's power and you can only run for so long.

The ref was way out of line giving Freitas an extra 20 to 30 seconds of recovery after a knock down. I can almost understand doing it the first time if it wasn't intentionally spit out, but the second time was absolutely rediculous.

I don't think there will be too many 135 pounders willing to step into the ring with Corrales after tonight.

both times the mouthpiece was spit out well after the knockdowns....actually,both times as he was rising...

you can`t give an advantage to a guy in that situation..or disadvantage the guy that was
doing damage...and a point is a joke....if freitas somehow comes back to win 11 and 12,imo,he wins the fight....and the ref`s gaff could have been the determining factor....

as for corrales...he ate way to many right hands....and will continue to struggle vs quick guys....

but, that height and power are great equalizers....

it was a fantastic fight...

You were absolutely right, after watching the fight again it was very clear that Freitas spit out the mouthpiece as he was standing up. He was obviously trying to buy himself more recovery time and the ref allowed it to happen. I completely agree that the ref was way out of line, he should have made Freitas fight the rest of the round without a mouthpiece in both instances since he spit it out on purpose. If it would have came out on accident while getting hit, he should have waited for a lull in the action like you said.
