The one that pops up some message about "Win 7 Security Center."

I had this crap, today, and it funked with my head, not to mention comp. Funked internet and pretty mudh everything else. A system restore seemed to have resoled but I have a friend, much more experienced in this crap than myself, whidch tells me it could still be lurking, via some restore points or whatevas.

Any word on experience with same and how to secure vs recurrence will get you in my will.

On a related note, forgivably ignoring 1st response, does anybody have word on Microsoft Security Essentials? My new (4.5 months or so) comp. came with McAfee but same buddy swears by this MSE stuff, free to download from the net. Not sure if it woulda stopped the same but I might give it a whirl.
Word?

odds are its still there if you just did a system restore. most viruses people write they take into account that the average joe can just hit system restore so that isnt always going to get rid of it.

do some searching on google and youll be able to find what you have pretty easily and a number of places give step by step on how to remove it.

Thanks, man. I'll try that.
My bud says do some safe-mode system restore after I've dumped all restore points--something about info in restore points being reincorporated or som shiite. Guy has lots of experience but couldn't explain Jack & Jill to and 8-year old (bad e.g., likely). Dude thinks we were seeded by some ancient civilization from space...doesn't understand the history of science but long, boring story there (his beliefs, not the hist of sci). Nevermind that...he can fix anything so pragmatism works for some. I just need a fix on this problem. And maybe one more beer (not) and then a nap (not-not).

Get a MAC

People have a problem with their computer that's a HUGE pain in the ass, the last thing they want to hear is "get a MAC. Not funny at all.

I shit canned McAfee about a month after I got new machine, been with MSE for about a 1 1/2 years.....works good for me.

Earlier on, maybe 3 or 4 years ago, I previously purchased a McAfee system.....ended up eating the cost and shit canning then also..... :SIB

Some gentlemen from the subcontinent remotely took control of my computer yesterday for about 2hours to remove a virus. I bought the virus removal insurance for $6.99 when I renewed my Norton security and it saved me a $99.00 charge. He told me it was a virus that masked itself as security software. Apparently Norton's normal wait time for tech support is 15 minutes. I was on hold for 1 hour and 35 minutes. All due to this new virus. They play some pretty shitty hold music.

If you have antivirus software call their tech support. I wouldn't trust a restore to fully remove it.

Thanks for the words.
Seems to be gone...I hope.
I ran a McAfee scan, a Malwarebytes scan, ran crap cleaner and also did the restore.
:mj09:
Will hope for best.

My friend tells me some websites get contaminated, so all you have to do is visit them (in lieu of a download) and you can get smacked.
I think it might have been experimentaletc.whatevas, where I scored some Charalambides as well as (yesterday) disc 1 of a Todd Tamaned Clark compilation. Would like to get disc 2 but I can avoid the site and use filetram or filestube to go to a direct link--they use depositfiles, anywho.

Overkill on the words, but it's in my nature.

or nurture

what's in a blown save?
