or ciproflaxin?...

well,don`t.....i have a sinus infection...actually,no big deal....get `em periodically...usually do nothing or use a steroid nasal spray...

for some reason,i went and got a scrip this time...

5 day regimen...875 mgs(one a day)..i took the first dose yesterday, and for some reason i decided to look it up on the net...

unbelievable...read a little of this shit...

http://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/case/levaquin.html

this stuff`s all over the net...

i took one pill and stopped...and i swear my achilles tendons feel a little tender....and i have a bump i never noticed on the left tendon....not in pain...maybe it`s my imagination....

i do the treadmill 5-7 times a week and the bowflex three....now i`m a tad worried...i`m thinking of calling my orthopedic guy and asking him to send me for an mri...

anybody ever take this poison?....

I have taken it all, and routinely get 2-3 sinus infections each year, spring-fall-winter. Brutal. Yes, I have eaten this drug like candy. No problems here, unless you can stop these infections. Sad thing is, I just know when it is starting and can't stop it.

Good luck.

scares me because an achilles rupture is about as devastating an orthopedic injury as you can have........the convalescence and rehab are long and tough...and in many cases, people are left permanently disabled......

i wouldn`t wish this injury on a dog...

they have whole forums, unafiliated with any lawsuits, filled with horror stories about this class of antibiotic( fluoroquinolones)...

it`s a fricking antibiotic...when your doctor prescribes an antibiotic, who expects it to f-ck your whole life up?...

scary, scary stuff...you can`t automatically trust everything your doctor tells you...

was curiouds to see if anybody else had taken this...and to warn everyone about this garbage...

I have taken it on 2 occasions. It is a very strong anti-biotic, but I had no adverse reactions to it.

My mother who is a retired ICU/CCU nurse of 30+ years though warned me of taking it any longer. She says its not really a safe one & there are too many problems she has seen arise from it. Told me to ask for something else if a doc ever prescribes it to me again....kurby

Always listen to mama.... :)

makes sense..mom sounds very wise...

i think i`d advise anyone who would be prescribed this drug for something relatively minor like a sinus infection, might consider asking their doc for something with a little less potential for trouble....at least as a first option...

worrying about tendon issues for someone who exerciss religiously or just likes to stay real active isn`t exactly reassuring...achilles/shoulde/hand/bicep/thigh....i can`t think of a more insidious way to f-ck with somebody`s peace of mind....

i can see taking it as a last option for something like pneumonia or some other potentially life threatening issue...

lot of people out there who feel their well being is directly tied to being able to stay in shape...especially as you get a little older...

just puttin` it out there....i know i`m done with it unless it`s as a last resort to treat some serious medical issue......

hope everybody stays healthy...

It's not really levoflaxin alone that can cause the tendon rupture. There are 3 predisposing risk factors: age over 60 years, long-term treatment with systemic glucocorticoids (steroids), and chronic kidney disease.

Your doctor gave you an appropriate dose that your kidneys can handle if healthy. I would not worry.

In the future, I may suggest you look up more reputable sources than "www.lawyersandsettlements.com". You aren't going to find the most scientific stuff on there. And let's be honest, you can find support for anything causing problems on the internet. It's good to be cautious and educated, but your doctor spent 10+ years in school and you are throwing your trust away on him for a malpractice website.

agent...i have no trouble accepting constructive criticism....:SIB

i thought i put the other websites up there...they are plentiful...

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/youropinions.php?opinionid=6421&p=3

http://www.levaquin.com/levaquin/

http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=20635&name=LEVAQUIN

there are numerous websites dedicated to the potential danger of this class of drug...and it does have a black box warning(which i wasn`t aware of at the time it was prescribed...i didn`t even check the box:shrug: )....

"On July 08, 2008, the FDA ordered a black box warning on certain antibiotic medications containing fluoroquinolone, which has been linked to tendon ruptures and tendonitis. Included were the popular drugs Cipro, Levaquin, Avelox, Noroxin and Floxin.[9] "...

i`m not making this stuff up...this stuff has serious potential side effects...there are many testimonials on these sites that claim tendonitis and tendon rupture in people much younger than 60 years old that haven`t been on steroids....and that haven`t been on a long course of treatment....

btw,saint..other than web m.d,,could you provide another "reputable" medical information site?.....i`d like to have a site i can refer to that i trust...

thanks...

i will look at pubmed for research, unfortunately for most it's just the abstracts but you can read the conclusions.

It worked fine for me back in April. That was the first time I had ever taken it. Most of my scripts were Biaxin until this one and it worked great. I'm age 36 and I also have an average of 3 sinus infections per year.

thanks saint....

slink...i`ve had sinus probs on and off for years...mostly able to get by without prescrips...have used rhinocort nasal spray on occasion...

as shamrock made abundantly clear,an occasioanl sinus infection isn`t worth complaining about ....it`s just a little disconcerting thinking that maybe the cure can be much worse than the disease.....
