i`m a neophyte regarding this stuff...but after reading up seems like you can use an hdmi "splitter" to run a signal from one source to several inputs using a splitter.....

i`m wondering if theres any loss of signal(longest cord run is roughly 10 feet) or "noise"......

i knew there were cable splitters and a/b splitters but wasn`t aware there was such a device...

picked up a small(24") lg lcd cheap to use as my computer monitor and it `s able to switch between signals... but i need the splitter to take advantage of a cable box running a larger t.v....would be nice to hit a button and switch between the computer and all the cable channels...i ordered a splitter through amazon and i`m wondering if i`m wasting my time...

thanks in advance...

Short answer - yes. you can.
This is what you want (or something similiar) http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CJObuuDE_bQCFW3KtAodPHgAWQ

You're looking at about 50$ for it.

prior to the ability to have 4+HDMI inputs on your receiver or tv, i had an hdmi splitter that i used to connect things together as my tv had only 1 input.
it worked fine.
Had either 6-8 foot cords that I used and never had any really noticeable loss in quality.

I don't use mine anymore, hell, toss me a few bucks and i'll ship you mine.

that`s the company that i ordeed from...i got the 1x2.......should be here thurs. or friday....

after doing some additional searching,i`m finding out that my 1080 larger t.v. will probably revert to the 720p resolution(provided by the computer/t.v. monitor) because that`s the way this particular splitter functions.....for some reason it won`t put out two resolutions and reverts to the 720p for both signals...i`ve always heard that on smaller screens that 1080 wasn`t necessary,so i went with the 720p l.g.......and i have to say the picture is fantastic...but i`m not sacrificing 1080i resolution on the larger t.v......

.if this is indeed the case i`ll search out a more expensive splitter or take the 720p lg back(heartbreaking because set up was very simple and the 720p picture is amazing) and get the 1080 panasonic for an add`l $70 ...sad because the lg was on sale for $169 and i`m very happy with it....

we`ll see...thanks for responding...

GW - my recollection is HDMI is ok for runs of 25 feet or less... after that you can have signal issues and then the signal is typically converted and set over RG6, then reconverted to HDMI....

Good luck with your splitter... I'm a big fan of Monoprice - the only place to buy HDMI cables and the like....

I've got a 1 in 8 out HDMI splitter from Monoprice with several runs of 75-100 feet with no audio or visual loss. Monoprice is phenomenal- it stopped working 1.5 years after I bought it, they shipped me a new one free of charge.

Wow - 75 to 100 feet! That is amazing. That is not supposed to work, based on what I read (but clearly it is for you). Is the splitter you have - does it also have an amp in it, to somehow amplify the signal?

No amp...and the crazy thing is that some of the runs are not straight cables, ie I have some runs that are 3x25ft HDMIs connected with female:female interchanges.

Now, I do use these TVs to play kids movies in my office so as far as quality of pic in HD it's not something I've ever looked closely at.

Hey, the kids should just be happy to get HD in a dentist's office!

splitter came today...just hooked it up and it worked perfectly....surprisingly,the channels that were supposed to be 1080i were showing 1080i on my bigger 1080i t.v. display(thought all signals would revert to 720p because of the 24" t.v. that is also hooked up))....

pretty nifty gadget for getting hi def signals from a single source out to other components throughout the house...

btw..here`s a list of hi def channel broadcast resolutions(it`s a direct tv listing but the resolutions listed match what i get on cable)..........

Yea, you shouldn't have any issue with 720 vs 1080i.

You've got your source (the cable/direct tv box) putting out the signal
It then goes to the splitter, where it is directed to the tv or monitor
The tv or monitor is the item that determines the viewing resolution.

and this appears to be what`s happening...strangely,the last page of the user manual includes 2 faq`s....the second states:"if the maximum resolution of the two displays supported is not the same, what resolution will be displayed?"...

the answer is:"the splitter will display at the lower one for both displays"....

i did a test in which i pulled the hdmi(going to the little 720p t.v.) out of the splitter as they were simultaneously on...i had it on a 1080i source(hbo) and i noticed no difference in signal quality(not a twitch,nothing)......

i guess it`s possible that the display button on my t.v. is indicating a 1080i signal and broadcasting a 720p signal.....but i kind of doubt it....

i`m thinking(as you indicated)that because the source is a high end cable box that it`s somehow overriding this feature....

i guess the bottom line is that both pictures are damned good(and i`m fairly particular about this stuff and was even when there was nothing better than crt displays) ...i`m pleased with the product...

monoprice seems like a solid vendor and i`ll use them again...
