Everyone I speak with says the same thing. Dr. is going to give you cortisone shot and tell you to stay off of it. This will not work and surgery will be needed to actually fix. Have been dealing with it for several months and can't handle it any longer. Just curious if anyone else has dealt with it and how it was resolved. TIA

Have u had Physical Therapy yet? A good PT can do wonders for plantar fasciitis. I had it almost a year before I went, and they had it cured in 2 weeks. Do not get the steroid shot unless it's last resort and therapy doesn't work.

They will do massage which will be painful at first and probably tickle at the same time, but that will diminish. They also can do Iontophoresis which is essentially Ultrasound with a steroid cream. As I mentioned, I was pain free in two weeks.

The best thing u can do on your own is freeze a regular bottled water, put that bottled water on the floor perpendicular to your foot, then step on the bottle while seated and move your foot back and forth (forward and backward) right on that fascia. U can also freeze an ice pack or even a bag of peas and put your feet on that several times a day.

Believe me that the $ you spend on physical therapy will be some of the best you have ever spent in your entire life. GL, and keep us updated.

Also, if the MD does an X-Ray of your foot, you will probably have bone spurs. Do not worry about that or let somebody do surgery on you. They are very common especially with people who suffer from plantar fasciitis, and the surgery does not have a high success rate while in itself being very debilitating.

Yes, have you tried orthotic insoles? Get them made for your feet, not the off the shelf type.

I had it for probably 6 months. I bought shoe inserts from Good Feet for around $250 I think. I'm not sure if they helped but I still wear them occasionally. Also had a cortisone shot as a last resort and that probably helped more than anything.....a shot in the heel is no fun! Eventually it just went away. sorry you're going thru it.

Guess this is a silly question, but can I bypass the doc and go straight to someone that will do this without a script or referral?

Thanks for all the replies guys! I have bought some insoles for a couple pair of shoes but not anything special, just off the shelf. Don't really want to deal with surgery but everyone I have spoken to at this point(aside from this thread) has said that is probably the end result. Have not heard anyone say that the cortisone shot worked. If I thought staying in bed for 3 straight weeks with my foot elevated would solve it I would do it at this point.

There were times when I didn't think it would ever go away but it did and I haven't had any problems in probably 10-12 years. The cortisone actually did give me some relief but I think they have to get it in the right spot. I'm not gonna lie.....the shot hurts like hell!

U need a prescription/called in order for PT. I would just get one of my friends to do it for me, but if u don't have friends in that field, U will just have to go to your doctor and get it.

The orthotics also help, but they have to be custom built as already mentioned. Do not have surgery, and don't get a shot until u have PT. Trust me on this one. GL!

this is how my foot dr did mine- you have to have someone else wrap it to make sure its done right because your foot has to be in the correct position and if you do it yourself your foot is flexed and not in the right position. I stayed off it as much as I could and in 3 weeks it was gone and I have never had it since. Worth a shot for a few rolls of tape.

I like the idea of the taping treatment too, but I'm not familiar with it. FDC said he had the surgery, and the last time I saw him he was walking fine, but I would only do that as a very last resort BC it's a rough recovery.

When I had my treatment, the first session was painful because the therapist will really massage your foot aggressively to break up that fascia. The next treatments were no problem, and two weeks later *POOF* no more pain.

This sounds fairly common, glad I never heard of it until this thread.
