double down

I have a local that makes pick'em games at
-1 1/2 both ways....so in other wordes you get - 1 1/2 either way you play....of course this is any opportunity for him to win both sides...just wondering if this is common.

I have seen two locals in the past do this. It is not what I would consider standard, but it is not unheard of. There are several things out there that some locals will try and get away with. And if people are still willing to play the game, then so be it.

I had one bookie that charged double juice on parlays and then tried to pay at lower odds. These guys were complete crooks. Needless to say that was the last conversation that I had with them.

With the assortment of on-line opportunities out there, locals should probably start getting back to basics IMO.

You would be far better off opening an offshore account than submitting to this kind of robbery.

On the course!
Coming from a small town, we had limited access to books, so I was "stuck". It is times like these, that you find out whether or not you are a degenerate with a problem.

Our "man" won all pushes on totals! When I heard this, I said no way......and this was during the baseball season! I can't imagine how much cash this clown was getting off of the "sheep".

I passed on this type of action. I have heard of guys who make a game -1 on both sides, but if you are dumb enough to accept it, I don't blame the bookie.

Mo.
"one and one" is pretty common, -1,-1.
We have three locals here and I think they all do that.
I don't use them much and have never bet into one of those.

If you are forced to play with this bandit, and if you play a significant amount, I would tell him you will simply not play according to those rules. Bookies are the only guys greedier than the players. I know for a fact that bookies of all sizes won't hesitate to cut deals with players. They assume you will lose no matter what and they are usually reluctant to pass on the action. If your boy takes only a small amount of play, he may not want to risk making a deal with you - but it can't hurt to ask (tell).
