It is what the name implies, a tiny firewall application on your computer that allows you to specify what inbound and outbound traffic you want to allow. I have installed this cuz I noticed activity on my modem when not on a site or anything. It seems to work very well (in conjunction with my virus protection), but I was curious if anyone knew anything else about it or any potential limitations.

I got it here: http://www.tinysoftware.com/download.php

It is a a very small .exe and does not take long to download at all even on a dial up.

I just read the negative reviews on it, and do notice slightly slower speeds, but not as much as those folks said. You do need to be kind of a techie to run it right. I am going to check out zone alert too and see which I like best.

I am finding that, prospector. Major resource hog! I am on a dialup for now, and anticipate having a cable connection soon. My concern is that I am running Windows 2000 Advanced server so want to protect myself as much as possible. It is an old MSDN version, so I have not been able to update the service packs legitimately. I was concerned about being vunerable to that whole IIS attack. May even disable the inetinfo, WWW and IIS Admin to be sure.

Are you making fun of me?

It is more for chits and giggles than anything. Since I am forced to have a dialup at the moment based on where I live, I have found that Advanced Server seems to provide the best speeds. Plus I like it.
