My daughter want to go to San Diego in the worst way so for Christmas I'd like to get her a beach house (for when it's warmer obviously) but I don't know anything about the area.

Anyone know the best places to look into? Best time to go? Must sees?

SD is one of the prettiest cities without a doubt.

I love La Jolla area. very upscale , very nice area
Mission Beach is awesome too.
GasLamp District is nice and appealing to the party crowd.

its gonna be cold for the beach...like 65-70 ish and very windy along the coast this time of year.

Thanks. To be clear, I'll buy her the trip now, but it would be scheduled to actually happen in June/July.

I live in SD, in a small area called Cardiff which we love. I can ask my fiancee what the best stuff to do out is here since I'm more of a homebody and more of a 'do whatever the people want to do' kind of person. What kinds of stuff does your daughter like to do? That might help narrow down location and suggestions.

Ocean, ocean, ocean. I'll likely get her surfing lessons while we are there as well. I'd like to be near at least some town where there are restaurant choices and other things to do as well even if it's just touristy stuff.

How long of a drive is it to LA? I can Mapquest it, but I mean including traffic and such?

Thanks for the input.

We also went to Coronado Beach, its a short drive from SD, loved it there, off the beaten path, not as touristy, went to a micro brewery for dinner and the food was out of this world, we drove up to LA one day in the middle of the week and it took a couple hours with no traffic, go to Hollywood Blvd. some interesting characters there and do a tour, we went into Bel Air, down Rodeo drive, Beverly Hills, etc...lots of traffic there, I wanted to see the Rose Bowl so we went to Pasadena too

As a gambling site my #1 suggestion:

Del Mar Mid-July thru Labor Day......opening day is best collection of people watching (aka...hot chicks wearing little)

LA is either 1.5 or 3 hours pending traffic...f that place..if you wsn to go there just go there as tons of shit to do but waste to commute back and forth

Gaslamp is fun for food/bars/padre game

Little Italy is great for food/fun...part of dtwn

Old Town for Mex food

Half day fishing trip (dont expect any huge fish) out of point loma area

Lots of brewery's

Surfing

Seals in la jolla

Golf Torrey pines

Bring lots of cash

Well if she likes baseball, Petco is great. A tour of a decommissioned Naval ship if that still goes on.

My favorite city in the United States! Pacific Beach is fun. I have a friend who lives there so I visit a lot. I?m only a 5 hour or so drive from Scottsdale.
