I will ponder this game until tip off. I want to play Pepperdine so bad due to Utah's best player Britton Johnsen being out for 3-4 weeks due to surgery on his broken thumb. This kid is everything to Utah. He is the teams LEADER (one of two seniors who get significant playing time), leading scorer (14pts/game), leading rebounder (6.8 rpg), leading minutes played up until injury. Without this 6-9 Forward I can see this already struggling team get really bad in his absence. They will now need to rely on Juniors Tim Frost (6-10 Center averaging 13 jpts and 4.4 reb shooting 52%) and Nick Jacobsen (6-4 Forward averaging 11.9 pts, 2.9 reb, and hitting 44% floor, 45% 3pts) to carry a very heavy load......especially when the only other players that have got significant minutes are Senior Trace Caton and then 4 Freshmen and a solphmore (Drisdom, Chaney, Markson, and Chris Jackson all fresh and Mark Jackson a solph). Pepperdine has some great talent in Miggens, Terrance Johnson, and Boomer Brazzle. They too are without one of their strong players (Devin Montgomery) but have played 4 games without him now already and have adjusted well. Acker, Patten and Senior Mike Westphal have been very good role players. My only hesitations have been that Pepperdine is 1-2 at home and I have already been burned a couple times on a star player being lost and that team ralling together to pull out a win and/or cover! (Jesse Young last night was out vs ECU and George Mason won SU, and Nsonwu-Amadi's Wyoming team went 3-1 while he was out beating a good Texas Tech team SU as well). I will continue to ponder on this game until tip off and will probably still do something on Pepperdine only to probably get burned by a rally around team once again!!!
Just some info to hopefully help make it clearer pick for someone else!!!
