The Expos start an 11 game homestand in Puerto Rico on Friday and was wondering if anyone knows or knows where I can find the dimensions for Hiram Bithorn Stadium?

Reason I ask is because I just read on a fantasy site that it's a very small stadium....info could be of some value in those upcoming games. Any help's appreciated.

Pete, I wouldn't say it's very small, but here's an article I think you would like......

An In-Depth Look at Hiram Bithorn Stadium

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bud Selig, our beloved Commissioner, surprised the baseball world by announcing that the Montreal Expos will be playing 22 games in San Juan?s Hiram Bithorn Stadium. If you know nothing about the stadium or Puerto Rico, relax, I have got you covered. Here is a closer look at Hiram Bithorn Stadium for the baseball fan.

What does it look like?

The ballpark looks like a late-1970s AAA Stadium. It is one level, with about 10 rows of green box seats, a walking concourse, then about 30 rows of General Admission seats. The General Admission seats are orange out to the 1st/3rd base bags, then dark green, and finally a brown section of seats towards the outfield corners. A zigzag pattern roof covers most of these seats. 14 to 30 luxury boxes hang above all the action. The outfield walls are decorated with plenty of advertisements; there is a single row on the main wall for banks, cars, newspapers, drinks (Gatorade to Vodka), with a few ads elevated above and behind the standard size wall (10-12 feet). The outfield dimensions are symmetrical: 315 down the lines, 360 to the power alleys, and 400 straightaway Center Field. The most disgusting thing about the park is, considering the lush tropical environment of Puerto Rico, is the artificial turf. There is a lot of foul ground, so the seats are further away from the action. The capacity is around 18,000 but rumors have been floating that Major League baseball is expanding the stadium to seat 40,000. The Stadium appears to be neutral, with a slight bias towards pitching.

How can I get in touch with the stadium for tickets?

Telephone Number: (787) 725-2110 E-mail: info@prcb.org

How about some history on the Stadium?

Hiram Bithorn Stadium received its name from the first Puerto Rican-born player to reach the major leagues. Hiram Bithorn, who was a pitcher, played four seasons in the big leagues for the Cubs and the White Sox in the 1940s. The stadium is 40 years old.

When are the games going to be played there?

New York Mets (April 11-14)
Atlanta Braves (April 15-17)
Cincinnati Reds (April 18-20)
Anaheim Angels (June 3-5)
Texas Rangers (June 6-8)
Florida Marlins (Sept. 5-7)
Chicago Cubs (Sept. 9-11)

From the article it sounds like there's no edge..maybe a bit gained for hitters with the turf, but the extra foul ground will take some away from the hitters.

Thanks for the info Danny...much appreciated :)

The park in Puerto Rico is a bandbox. Will be interesting to see how the games play out there. High scoring will be anticipated.
