GSP adding 15 pounds, probably...how does that effect his fighting at 185. We've all seen the Spider can fight at 205, and is a Fxckin maniac
at 185.

What is everyones take here?

Personally, I would side with Silva. :SIB

GSP is a very big welterweight so the weight would be no problem at all..... as strong and focused as he is now, he would give Anderson one hell of a fight.

Anderson has NEVER, and I mean NEVER fought a guy as well-rounded as GSP.. Along with GSP's well-rounded game, he and his team have come up with and EXECUTED FLAWLESS GAMEPLANS lately. He prepares for his opponent's strengths better than anyone right now as well.

GSP's excellent takedowns and ground control will lead him to victory if he faces Anderson Silva..... yes, that's right. Silva has a few submissions, but the majority ARE FROM STRIKES or against guys that arent near the jiu-jitsu caliber that GSP is.

:director: BEWARE, if GSP stands with Anderson Silva he will get knocked out! But GSP wont stand with Anderson Silva... he just aint dumb like Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson. :)

This will be a great fight, but a lot of people are wrongfully counting out THALES LEITES who has outstanding submissions!! Anderson must first get by Leites....

At some point BUCS will come in and tell you GSP has no chance, but he's wrong...... so so wrong. :sadwave:

A lot of people including me have speculated about and would love to see GSP/Spider. That would be fantastic.

Anywhere less than -175, I would be on Silva.

In my opinion, Height/Reach is a big advantage when you also factor in the natural weight difference for defending take down attempts.

There's a 4 inch height difference. What is the reach difference. I see GSP has a 76" reach.

And those long ass legs!!

"the bunker"
silva...easy....

i watched some spike ufc reruns last night and i was surprised to see a chubby spencer fisher outbox and then submit thiago alves at 170.....

fisher may be the dead-toughest dude in the ufc....i`m talking sheer guts and toughness....

and it confirmed(in my feeble mind)that alves has done something "differently" since his fight with fisher....he doesn`t even look like the same guy....

back on point, if i were gsp,i`d beat alves and not even consider a fight with silva....

if anything, silva needs to move up...not fight little guys....beating gsp to a pulp would prove nothing about him...or gsp...

we should have learned all we need to know about elite little guys fighting elite big guys last weekend...

Rawli, you're right, GSP wouldn't stand a chance. Anderson will be bigger and faster because it's his weight class and natural weight. Has GSP ever fought heavier than 170??? Anderson won't be controlled on the ground like welterweights are....that is, if GSP isn't greasing.

GSP is a great fighter, but he's not near as well rounded as Anderson Silva. GSP's striking is above average at best. How can you say Anderson hasn't faced anyone as rounded as GSP? Hendo, Franklin???? Both of those guys would destroy GSP...

Anderson would KO/TKO him.

I don't think this fight will happen. It is not in the best interest of Silva, he has nothing to gain from beating a WW. If Silva wants to prove he is by far the best P4P then he should move back up to 205 but not settle for anything less than a title shot. GSP wouldnt be any different at 185 because he is basically 185 lbs when he fights at 170. It would just mean no cutting weight the day before the fight. In my opinion Silva would beat him up, GSP doesnt have the face/chin to stick with Silva. I would say Silva wins buy ref stoppage in second rd due to cuts on GSP face. He is a tough SOB but face gets mangled to easily. GSP could win a round though because Hendo basicallly did vs Spider by out wrestling him. Silva would be at least a 2-1 fave because that is what GSP was over Penn and this would be much of the same. I just don't see it happening although I would like to watch it.

I agree with Coach K, fight won't happen. Silva has already proved he can fight with the 205ers and that's where the big money fights are for him. I would LOVE to see him vs Machida. I do think Silva would more than 2 to 1 though, there's just too much size difference. Much like the Penn GSP difference. Penn has no challenges at 155 but the jump is just too big and it would be for GSP as well. If they want to test GSP out they should do it like they did Silva, feed him a LW that is average or if they really think he's good let him take a shot a Rich Franklin. Personally I think Franklin would smash him. When you're an elite fighter for your class, then someone who is a class under you isn't coming up and beating you and Anderson is elite.

Anderson is bigger, I dont know about faster...... GSP is the most explosive fighter in the world right now at 170... Anderson is explosive as well, but the minute he threw a combination he would get dumped on his head, just like crappy Travis Lutter did to him.

Please tell me you didnt just compare Henderson and Franklin to GSP?!! You honestly feel those guys are as well-rounded as GSP? :nono: Rich Franklin gets taken down in every one of his fights!! When you dont even have defensive wrestling you are not well-rounded.. Plus, he's gotten caught in wicked submissions against Okami and Lutter only to gyrate and squirm around until he squeaks out.

Henderson?............ now i love Henderson, but come on....... He has great Greco (as in upper body takedowns), a good chin, and punching power! His jiu-jitsu literally sucks wind....

:director: DAN HENDERSON HAS ONE WIN BY SUBMISSION..... COUNT IT, ONE.... AND THAT WAS IN 1997!!!!!!!!! :mj07: :142smilie THAT'S NOT WELL-ROUNDED!!!!!!!!

To counter, GSP has a black belt from Gracie Barra and has shown high-level submissions recently (Hughes).

Anderson Silva was never in any trouble in any of those 2 fights you mentioned. For crying out loud, he submitted LUTTER from the bottom!

You're fighting a losing argument. Get over your love for GSP. He stands no chance at beating Anderson Silva.

The argument of size is really stupid. What do you think BJ Penn walks around at??? It's the same thing for GSP to move up.

Also, Silva is the most explosive fighter next to Fedor. GSP's fights are typically 3round decisions. He couldn't even finish Fitch or BJ Penn...Penn's corner stopped the fight.

If you think GSP is more explosive then GSP, then I don't know what to tell you.

He submitted Lutter due to ELBOWS, he wasnt being choked by the triangle.
And LUTTER CUT 20 POUNDS OF WATER BEFORE THAT FIGHT, complete idiot move on his part.

"The argument of size is really stupid." What is stupid is that you actually think GSP doesnt stand a chance.

Anderson Silva wasnt necessarily in danger against Hendo, but he did get beat on in the first round.. Hendo won that round easily with ground and pound. No sweeps, reversals, escape attempts from Silva at all.

"What do you think BJ Penn walks around at?" Unless BJ is a liar, he walks around at the weight he weighed in at, 168. GSP walks around at 187, WITHOUT doing any olympic lifts, size training..... And his build is nothing like BJ Penn's...... GSP is a ball of lean muscle, unlike BJ. GSP had 30 pounds of LEAN MUSCLE on BJ Penn, his body fat is probably half that of BJ.

And you're right, Penn's corner stopped the fight, thats called a TKO. The fourth round could have been scored 10-8 and then he quit, he tapped... not literally, but figuratively.... He went to his corner, didnt do a bit of arguing when the towel was thrown in, and his body language WAS BEGGING for someone to stop the fight. He was finished.

Ok, so when they fight(if they do), we'll make a bet. When Silva wins, you never post in an MMA topic on MJ's again. GSP wins, I do the same.

You're "twisting" the Submission win Silva had against Lutter because it was due to strikes. However, you turn around and call BJ's loss a TKO because the corner threw the towell in? You're playing both sides of the fence(go figure).

Whether Hendo won the round or not, he didn't really accomplish anything on the ground against Silva.

Lutter cut that weight because his fat ass didn't train right.

Please, explain to me what the difference of GSP moving up is compared to BJ moving up? Exact same instances where we got guys who are world class fighters in their weight class, but your bias towards GSP makes you believe GSP could run through Silva...hell, he might as well just fight Fedor.

Anderson Silva is 6-2 while GSP is 5-10. Anderson has a reach advantage, weight advantage, experience advantage, confidence advantage, striking advantage. The only advantage GSP would have is ARGUABLE.

You're right, I do play both sides of the fence, you only play the former Chute Boxe member side... :mj07: I honestly cant remember one time you have ever even thought about the possibility of Wanderlei Silva, Anderson Silva, Nogueira, or Shogun EVER LOSING...... so for you to say I play both sides of the fence is a compliment.

Listen, im not saying Anderson Silva doesnt have a chance, OF COURSE HE HAS A CHANCE, HE'S FUCKING ANDERSON SILVA!!!!!! Im just saying you're out of your brain to say GSP doesnt stand a chance.

I've got nothing to prove here, im just stating my opinions and the difference between you and I is I welcome friendly arguments... You try and tear down anybody that has a different opinion than yourself, with little analysis or explanation....

Back to weight, you are only including BJ Penn! How about when Rashad Evans had a string of victories at HEAVYWEIGHT before going down to light heavyweight....... How about Randy Couture, who lost a lightweight title fight only to go up, WIN, and DEFEND his heavyweight title?!?! And so on and so on....... people carry weight differently than others, a jump from 155 to 170 is HUGE size-wise in the UFC.

Raw, I agree with you on moving up in weight but that's why I said send GSP up and test him against someone average at that weight. Rashad wasn't beating really good HWs, Randy is a freak but wouldn't come close to beating the ELITE HW Fedor. I said it and I believe Weasel said it, it's one thing to move up and beat regular guys and maybe even a champ in the weight class up but guys like GSP, Silva and Fedor can't even be beat by the top guys in their weight class let alone guys that weigh significantly less.

Good point, but there are other cases like Dan Henderson and Rich Franklin (etc.) that can carry weight at either class, and I feel like GSP is one of those guys whose frame can handle a jump in weight. I dont feel the same about BJ.

We're seeing guys like Kampmann drop down and become incredibly lean at 170... Wanderlei will be incredibly lean at 185... Deigo Sanchez will be incredibly lean at 155, but all had great careers in their previous weight classes. I think GSP can do the opposite of these guys and comfortably go up a weight class.

That said, this will be GSP's first fight there and I understand I am picking an UPSET win. And you're right, this isn't a normal jump, he'll be facing an ELITE middleweight champion. GSP's wrestling is just so good and we saw in the first round against Hendo that great wrestling could be Silva's kryptonite... I think GSP can execute an intelligent gameplan and beat The Spider.

Find 1 post of me every stating anything of that nature. Until you do, I'd suggest not spitting out random things.

I could care less about the Nogueria's and Anderson's not even one of my favorite fighters.

Other than Shogun and Wandy, I could care less about the success of any other fighters.

The only kryptonite to beating Silva is for Silva to lay down on the mat. This talk about a wrestler moving up in weight class to fight an elite fighter is non-sense.

Also, Rashad didn't beat anyone worth a piss at heavyweight, there's a reason why he moved down. He was only fighting HW because that was his shot at getting into the UFC. That TUF show didn't have LHW's.

We also saw a world class ground guy in Travis Lutter get beat at his own game.

Anderson Silva is, and deservingly the P4P best fighter in the world, even ahead of Fedor.

Ok, Rich and Dan both have fought at 205 but they haven't beat an elite 205er(don't think there is one). You bring up Kampman, Wandy and Diego dropping down and the reason they're dropping down is because they can't win at the higher weight class mainly because of size.

GSP is a GREAT MMA wrestler but a very big part of that is because he's as big or bigger than most of the guys he fights.

Listen I love GSP and he's an elite fighter but his chances vs Silva are very small.

Saying all of that, move GSP up and let him fight a LW. Lets see how he does and then go from there. Silva has dominated his weight class but he didn't get put right up to the top of the LHW class. The reason BJ did is because he's fought at every weight there is(except HW).
