A quick set-up. I got direct tv about a week ago and discovered tvg (basically broadcasts all major tracks live with analysis). I have an account with the greek so decided to play some small bets on the horses, mostly w-p-s just for fun (and it is fun). Anyway it brings me too tonight. due to the odds and wide open field I decides to take a decent shot on one race. I bet a $1 tri box with the 5 horses, had to lay $60 as usual. Not only did I get lucky and hit it, the longest shot of the 5 won the race at 18-1. The $2 tri payed $669.60 at the track. I quickly did my math. Half of that $334.80 - the $60 that I layed. A nice profit of $274.80...I check back at the greek and to my amazement was credited with $99. I call customer service and am imformed that the most they pay on exotic bets is 100-1...Wait, it gets better. To add insult to injury they subtracted $1 for each individual combination that lost. I won $99 on one combination, but lost $59 on the other 59 possible combinations for a grand profit of $40 bucks....I risked $60 bucks and won the highest payout they would pay regardless of odds, $40 on a race that paid $334.80 ($60 lay included) everywhere else with a 18-1 shot tht won. Hell, I would have been better off betting half the amount on the biggest favorite to show. I am utterly amazed. I will say that there rules are listed, but this is ridiculous. But I promise you it won't happen again (at least not with them). A heads up to anyone considering playing horses at Olympic sports book. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE...

Personally, I dont play the horses there, but I know people have gotten "hosed" by other books like this on horse races. However, it is usually just a matter of reading the rules to find the max they will pay on trifectas. Look, I am not saying it is right, I am not saying you shouldnt be pissed, I am just saying it is right in their rules:

3. Track Odds will be paid on winning horses up to a maximum of:
Straight wagers: Win 20-1, Place 8-1, Show 4-1
Exotics: Exactas, Daily Double, Trifectas, etc. 100-1

The only reason I share this is that I got screwed by a book once in a similar situation. Sure it was in the rules, but who bothers to read them before placing any sort of wager? I certainly did not. Once it happened to me I always make it a point of reading the rules/max odds of any new book before I place a wager.

Again, I am not saying you dont have a right to be pissed, just sharing some advice from what I learned in the past.

It doesnt pay to play exotics(exacta-trifecta-quinella-superfecta-Pick 6's) at any book because they cap the limit on these type bets. They also cap W-P-S bets too soyour best bet is to bet at the track or at an OTB.

But your right Olympic is horrible for horse players that bet longshots..

Hi guys,

I have to apologize for our odds on horses. Unfortunately, I have no control over this area but it has been brought to management's attention.

On the positive side, we do offer head to head matchups and starting Saturday we will offer them on Santa Anita and Belmont. For the Breeders' Cup, we should have at least five matchups per race. Odds are listed for the horses

That's the consolation I can give you for our lack of track odds.

I have one suggestion - those of you that play horses that would like to play track odds at Olympic, if ENOUGH of you e-mail me, it may help us work with management on this issue. That old saying of "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" theory is what I'm looking for here.

You can reach me at marketing@thegreek.com.

Horse Matchups

1. All horses listed in the matchup must start in order for there to be action. However, in cases where the matchups are against "the field," (meaning all other horses in the race) and a horse scratches that is part of "the field," the bet will still stand.
2. The winner of a horse matchup is the horse with the best finish placement.

Karol,

Nice to see Olympic keeping on top of something like this. Little things like that go a long way in my book compared to some places that dont answer email or the phone. Have been a happy customer of Olympic for a while and real glad you guys are finally on board here - ITS ABOUT TIME! :D:D

Welcome.

Karol, WSEX has 200-1 maximum payouts on exactas and 300-1 on trifectas. CARIB offers similar payouts. I think most bettors would agree this is fair - should someone hit a $10,000 trifecta you won't be on the hook for 10 dimes but I think if someone hits a $500 trifecta it's not unreasonable to expect that kind of payout. If you don't feel this is reasonable then I suggest not offering trifecta options on races since most pay more than 100-1 anyways.

If I could make a suggestion on 2 other things I would like to see Olympic offer that would be great it would be the following.

- Parlay options on any non related matchups (i.e. auto racing, golf, tennis etc. - where you can parlay say Jeff Gordon with Tony Stewart in different matchups but not Jeff Gordon in one matchup with Jeff Gordon in another matchup)

- Qualifying matchups on the auto racing aside from F1 and Nascar. You offer odds to win and race matchups for every cart, irl and busch series race so why not qualifying matchups?

In any case I think OLY is the best in the business and I love the new CFL props and weekly movie odds you post. It shows you are truly an innovator along with being solid as a rock. :D

Gameday pays full track odds on W-P-S +10% but they only offer 1 track per day and you have tocheck which track they are offering. Exacta are capped at 250/1.

Karol why the 30 cent spread on the horse head to head? Thats too steep for me. Olympic is the best book out there but the spreads on the horses props and other prop bets are out rageous.

ryson, the channel I get it on is #405...
acehistr8, you are correct. I should have read the rules before playing. The greek has them plainly stated. I was dissappointed and let it get the best of me.
Karol, I have been using the greek for several years and am very happy with you all for the most part. You all pay promptly and have the best web site, but think I will stick to sports bets in the future. I appreciate your honesty and concern. I apologize for airing my "dirty laundry" instead of e-mailing my concerns where you are concerned. My dissappointment got the best of me.
Thanks to everyone else for mentioning other places. I think I will join tvgnetwork and play directly with them for track odds.

Don't know where you live, but many states have internet wagering that is accepted by the state. In California we have a few choices depending on the track. You fund it with a credit card - yes, that is correct, you can fund with a credit card. You can play and receive track odds and payoffs just as if y0u are at the track. Many states have something similar or the same.

I'm not sure of Direct TV, but if TDP is watching TVG on channel number 405, he has a DISH Network system.

I've always used WSEX for any horse racing bets I might make. Don't do it often as I would rather head to the OTB across the river than bet the ponies at home.
