Bought my son an Apple laptop computer for college doing all his notes in class as well as everything else. Last year he had to buy Microsoft software to be able to Powerpoint, Excel spreadsheets, etc. I am pretty sure last year I paid 79 dollars for it, although he got it himself. He just this week a year later was charged another 79 dollars for the product again. Is this a rental agreement, or does Microsoft charge Mac users each and every year to have that on their laptops? Makes no sense to me, appreciate any help. Thanks.

MACs have their own version, like numbers, sheets, docs, etc....

That class and/or college should be embarrassed they promote windows computers lol

This, for sure.

Other than that he can use OpenOffice for Mac and it will accomplish what he needs. It's free, you can even download it from Amazon if you don't want to trust a link I would post.

As stated above MACS have their own stuff, no need for that Microsoft shit.

Now if University/College is demanding he have it on his computer that is complete bullshit.

Thanks for the replies, not sure I understand them all, but he should understand what to try. I agree, UGA has some Profs that grade off this apparently, but will research that more also. Thanks again.

It's an annual subscription, personally I love it. It allows you to run the latest and greatest versions of Microsoft Office and older versions if necessary. I have multiple Macs in my house and the $100 per year plan works great for me (not only computers but devices too (iPhone, iPad etc). This keeps me from having to buy MS Office licenses for multiple computers @ $250 a pop every time MS upgrades. Check out the link above, it looks like there is a University license / Student license for $79.99 for 4 years.

The other products (Apple versions, Open office etc) do the trick but Microsoft is the 800 lb. gorilla in the space and most people use it. At times there are compatibility issues with opening an Excel spreadsheet in Numbers etc.

This is not a bad option, especially if you think you will need tech support, but Open Office is free and there are no compatibility issues.
