Are The AFC?s Big Guns Ready?

By SPORTSBETTING.COM

There was a time and place when the NFC was the dominant conference and rattled off a long streak of consecutive Super Bowl wins over the AFC.

But that?s history and currently the two big favorites to win it all reside over in the AFC. The Patriots (-150) and the Colts (+450) are both playing at home this weekend, vs. teams that had varying levels of success in their victories last weekend in the Wild-Card round.

The pressure is on both home favorites, but pressure is nothing new to either team, especially ?playoff? pressure.

Let?s have a look at the two AFC games on the card this weekend.

Jacksonville at New England

The New England Patriots did something that the Pittsburgh Steelers of the 70?s, San Francisco 49er teams of the 80?s and the Dallas Cowboys teams of the 90?s never did; they finished a regular season campaign unscathed.

The Pats were 16-0 straight up, while posting a 10-6 mark against the spread and have routinely seen betting lines in double digits causing bookmakers much grief; how do you set a sensible line for a team that is so dominant?

SPORTSBETTING.COM has the Pats favored by 13?-points, but it is interesting to note that the early bettors are leaning to the big underdog, the Jacksonville Jaguars. This is unfamiliar territory this season, as New England has consistently been a big favorite and still the vast majority of bettors didn?t blink laying the hefty points.

But this is playoff time, and it appears the betting public is looking at a few close calls in the last quarter of the regular season for the Pats and the fact the Jaguars have looked very goods. Right now the Jags impressive running game and rugged defense have attracted 60% of the action at SPORTSBETTING.COM.

The Jags finished the regular season on a 7-1 ATS flurry but just missed out on a cover against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week despite winning 31-29.

Can the Jags stay within (basically) two TDS?.that?s what a majority are betting on.

San Diego at Indianapolis

The Chargers and the Colts are best known for their offenses and their MVP players.

The San Diego Chargers and All World RB LaDainian Tomlinson currently lead playoff teams in yards gained, with 350 yards per, while the Indianapolis Colts and one of the top QBs in this era, Peyton Manning were fifth in the league in the same stat in the regular season with 358.7 ypg (as mentioned the Colts had a bye last week).

During the regular season both teams proved they could put points on the board as the Colts were third in the league with 589 points for, while the Chargers were fifth in the league with 412 points scored.

With both teams having the ability to put points on the board, might you consider a wager on the Over? SPORTSBETTING.COM has the Total set at 46.

The Colts are defending champions and are expected to see the return of WR Marvin Harrison to the lineup, according to the Indianapolis Star, which is just another weapon for Manning.

Unlike the other AFC matchup, in this one, the favorite is seeing the majority of the betting action. The Colts are favored by 8? and are receiving 65% of the volume wagered on the matchup.
