The Toronto Argonauts have signed import punter/kicker Swayze Waters on the same day they placed veteran Noel Prefontaine on the nine-game injured list.
It was reported yesterday that the Argos were talking to Waters, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham product tweeted he was heading to Toronto. The announcement today makes the news official.
Prefontaine aggravated a pre-existing injury at the end of the first half of Saturday's 36-27 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and was replaced by Anthony Alix.
The 25-year-old Waters spent the first two weeks of the season on the Edmonton Eskimos' practice roster. The Jackson, Mississippi, native is a former NFL kicker who spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions.
Toronto also made official the signing of DB Etienne Boulay.
