I was wondering, if a team's winning percentage is less than 50% percent in your own conference at the end of the regular season, are you disqualified from getting an at-large bid into the Ncaa tourney??

arent disqualified, impossible .you just wont get one unless you win your tourney, but thats not at large. or unless you know a bunch of french judges picking the teams. is their someone with a hi rpi that fits the mold?

Hello there...

I would have to double check, but I am pretty sure the ACC has had at-large teams that didnt win the ACC tourney finish the regular season at 7-9 in the conference.

Wasn't there a rule change in the last couple years or so that u needed atleast a 50% winning percentage in your conference or the conference along with the conference tourney to even be considered for an atlarge bid, just in case you didn't get the automatic bid??? Or am I getting this mixed up with college football.

no they arent disqualified, heard this very point brought up on espn, some "experts" feel that you should be at least .500 in conf and want that rule to be adopted, might get more of the small conf teams in as a result but at this time not a rule--

Just for the record, in case anyone is curious

In 1997, Virginia finished their regular season at 7-9 in the conference, lost in the first round of the ACC tourney, and still got a #9 seed in the NCAA tourney (and lost to Iowa).

Kotsy, interesting stuff.

Pacman, thanks for the great article.

I focused on this part of the article when Fowler said:

"Playing a strong schedule is important. Georgia got in by playing the No. 1 schedule, not with 20 wins. That?s the emphasis the last two to three committees have done. We want you to play people."

Doesn't this guy know that teams in weaker conferences don't have full control on who they play. I don't think the weaker conferences should get punished for this. It's not there fault they don't play the big teams in the country. A legit gripe BYU had in college football. I know they loss to Hawaii and in the bowl, but kotsy put a great example of a big team(viginia) losing, too.

I think the real reason Fowler said "We Want U to Play People" is because he works for Tv and the bigger teams will get more ratings, which helps the station. What he really wanted to say was "We Want Teams that can get the biggest ratings."
