Outrights:
Tim Clark(40/1) e.w.
- - With the requisite history at Pebble Beach, I?ve been waiting for this play (and then beyond) since I thought it was Johnny Miller as analyst on Saturday at Waialae noted that Clark now has his hands further from his body, and his action is much improved.
Bryce Molder(66/1) e.w.
- - I had Molder last year in this event at 25/1, which contributes to the definite reasons for liking the play this year.
Mike Weir(300/1) e.w.
- - A 42 year old making a comeback from the depths to which Weir plunged would be extremely rare. But with his first four sub-70 rounds in two years under his belt, he?s been tracking onto my sorry radar. He says his game isn?t where he wants it to be, and I have no doubt about that, but the Monterrey Peninsula inspires dreams. I really should be looking at the Top Ten market, but that isn?t the way I usually roll.
Steve Marino(66/1) e.w.
- - I go back to Turnberry in 2009 for filing away the thought that Marino has his best opportunity when weather and course conditions demand something other than dialing up robo-shots for a Nicklaus or TPC venue. So I suppose this week has possibilities, and I think he?s still in a good early season place mentally in trying to emerge from a litany of prior setbacks.
David Duval(300/1) e.w.
- - I liked the way he was swinging it on the range, so that?s about all I?ve got to offer.
David Lingmerth(150/1) e.w.
- - His name popped up before Waialae, and with a swing that is all his own, my research suggested he might be a name like Marino for some old style venues in tough conditions. So then of course he pops up the next week in perfect weather during the birdie fest in Palm Springs, but nonetheless, we will test the theory here.
Scott Langley(175/1) e.w.
- - He was being interviewed on the range yesterday and was grinning from ear to ear under his stocking cap while talking about his love for Pebble Beach and his history of playing in the elements while attending college in Illinois. So I?ll give him a shot as a bad weather player.
Casey Wittenberg(150/1) e.w.
- - Going with one play too many, which will superstitiously manage to ruin my whole card, and then going with just a saver on John Mallinger and Jimmy Walker.
