This is an interesting game Wash ? Atl (-3)

Bet365 ? Atlanta ? 3
VIP ? Atlanta ?3

Following both performances last week, against equally poor teams, I am still unsure about the all around quality of both teams in this game. The redskins D played very well in the opening game, yet it was against Teste & no Coles. The Falcons D on the other hand got burned early and often.

On offense the Falcons looked solid, absent Vick. Johnson was able to overcome some inconsistency and Finneran, Crumpler, and Dunn all looked solid. Unfortunately without Finneran that Washington D-line may be able to stack the box and shutdown Dunn & Duckett. The Redskins looked great in the first half, Ramsey and Coles were on fire. I think we saw the real Ramsey in the second half when he barely had 29yrds and couldn?t help the Skins cover against a poor Cowboys team. Oh Ya, Explain the RB controversy to me? They both suck and have no right to be starting RBs in the National Football League. Betts and Candidate have never amounted to more than insurance anywhere they have been, and they can?t take the pressure off of a rookie QB.

REDSKINS TEAM RANK: Rushing Offense - 160 yards per game (3rd in NFL); Passing Offense - 167 ypg (24th); Total Offense - 327 ypg (14th). Rushing Defense - 57 ypg (5th); Passing Defense - 101 ypg (2nd); Total Defense - 158 ypg (2nd).
FALCONS TEAM RANK: Rushing Offense - 98 ypg (T-15th); Passing Offense - 220 ypg (15th); Total Offense - 318 ypg (16th). Rushing Defense - 149 ypg (T-26th); Passing Defense - 254 ypg (25th); Total Defense - 403 ypg (31st).

I have always known there was bad blood between Spurrier and Johnson, but this may be a nice chance for the 2nd string QB to exact a little revenge.
This article comes from CBS Sportsline ? 11/Sept:

?Falcons quarterback Doug Johnson may have said the right things when talking about facing his old college coach this week, but you can bet he's biting his tongue some, too. Johnson does not like Redskins coach Steve Spurrier, who coached him at Florida. He does respect Spurrier as a passing coach, and gives him credit for refining his game. Personally, he wants no part of him. In an interview this summer, Johnson said he felt that Spurrier blackballed him after his college career was over, helping to keep him out of the Senior Bowl. Johnson was not drafted, signed as a free agent with the Falcons and has been a backup in his four seasons. When Michael Vick went down, he was given the chance to play. Now he can show up his ol' ball coach. If he does, maybe he can embarrass Spurrier the way the coach tried to embarrass him when he was in college. On his way to breaking the single-game passing mark against Vanderbilt, Johnson was pulled by Spurrier, who said he didn't deserve to have the record. A couple of days after the game, Spurrier gave Johnson a football commemorating his having the second-highest single-game passing yardage in school history. Johnson threw the football into the stands at Florida Field. "There was no way I was keeping that," he said. "Do you believe he had the nerve to do that?" So forget that talk that Johnson won't be extra hyped to play his college coach. If he can rub it in, he will. Paybacks are hell.?

I like The Under (? 39.5, VIP and BET365) this should be a defensive game. Atlanta?s defense is better than they showed against Dallas.

I am also leaning towards Atlanta, still have to look at the series over the last few years.

A slightly different opinion

A slightly different opinion

Never heard about pulling Johnson on the way to setting a record and then getting the award...I can see why he hates Spurrier. Not sure if a QB hyped to beat someone actually works or may work in reverse (e.g forcing things when they aren't there). I have to disagree a bit on your opinion on Ramsey, he was put under wraps in the 2nd half pretty much and he did have probably the most critical run to win the game. The run set them up for a field goal which won the game. What Ramsey seems to have that other Redskins QB don't have is making plays that win games. His 2nd TD pass of last game was something you can't teach....he avoided a rusher, threw around him with the perfect loft to the perfect spot over a defender at the back of endzone....when I saw that, it convinced me this kid has more than just a strong arm...so the real Ramsey is neither the one you saw in the 1st half nor the 2nd....he's somewhere in between....but he does make big plays IMO and the team plays well for him. Regarding your opinion that the running backs aren't so great...I agree Trung Canninade is a total finesse back and he should be used sparingly. Betts, on the other hand, is a good back (not great) that churns out tough yards, follows his blockers and doesn't fumble. In my opinion, the running game really is the offensive line which the Redskins upgraded mightedly...they already had two fine tackles and now they have decent guards, center and a great blocking fullback....so it really doesn't matter that Betts is just OK, I'll take a good line over a good running back any day....think the Redskins repeat their strong running today...and for what it's worth, think Spurrier will get the last laugh again, no matter if he's a smuck or not. Redskins by 10.
