The Island of Manhattan
Just got back yesterday

The place is just Incredible

All you guys HAVE to see this palce. I have been to quite a few tropical vacation spots and none compare to the Atlantis.

It is a little expensive but it is well worth it.

Do yourself a favor next vacation go to the Atlantis in the bahamas

Just went on my honeymoon there last June. Sandals in the Bahamas, I mean. Absolutely wonderful.

Toast,
Your name looks too much like Taoist, a regular around here. I'll have to look at names more closely! I went to the exact resort you are going to in Jan. You will love it. If you plan on scuba diving, sign up for it the instant you get checked in. We waited 2 days and we were too late. They book up quick. The snorkel trips are a little easier to get signed up for, but do it early. Just use their snorkel equipment, it works great. The restuarants are very nice! They have a restaurant on a remote island about 1 mile off-shore. It was a nice romantic atmosphere, but mosquitoes and sand fleas wore us out! Put on a little repellent before you go and you'll be fine. You'll have to sign up to have dinner there a couple days in advance too. I wish I had someone to tell me all this stuff before we went!

You can take a #10 bus into nassau to see the sites. I think the fare was $1 per person, per trip. From there, you can take a ferry over to paradise island and check out Atlantis. It is nice, but you will be glad you picked Sandals. If you want to buy gifts for people, go to the straw market in Nassau. You can barter with the locals if that is your thing. Most of that stuff is all handmade, so you can talk them down quite a bit.

If you have a spa credit, get the couples massage. :brows: Enough said. The spa is first class and it is down in the basement. Tough to find, just ask an employee.

Not sure if there is a sportsbook inside the casino at Atlantis. It is a pretty small casino, so probably not. I think it is there as more of a novelty than anything else. Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Heaven, oh!!, this isn't it?!
Beg to differ....Snake

Beg to differ....Snake

We went a year ago in November and was the worst trip I have ever taken.
Sounds like sour grapes, I know, I know, however, my wife and I have traveled alot and have enough experiences, both good and bad to know right from wrong, and both the Atlantis and Sandals are over hyped and quite frankly a JOKE!
Promises were made that never came through, upon trying to resolve several issues, we were treated rudely by the manager on duty(Atlantis), he allowed us to stand at the registration desk for a half an hour just watching us, it was almost funny!:
We were promised a honeymoon suite, what we got was a ground level room just outside the maintenance area for the pool(smelled like rotting fish) with two twin beds!! LOL.
We thought of just canceling there and going right over to Sandals, on the way up the elevator, the couple getting off the elevator were complaing about Sandals, a conversation ensued, we had drinks with them, and they confirmed what we were to later find out.
Sandals was filthy. the food was marginal. They were out of Pina Colada mix for a week! C'mon this is supposed to be the best of all inclusive out there. All but one meal was either bland, "out of this or that", over/under cooked, or just plain sucked. It seriously became a joke around the place when talking with the other vacationers.
The problem we were told by islanders in the know, is that, since they changed over to the tip is included in whatever you purchase, that the waitstaff and service people dont give a rats ass if your requests are taken care of.
Give me the good ol US or a cruise ship or Mexico or etc. they all beat the Bahamas in my book.
I sincerely hope your experiences are different, toast, but I will tell you this, before you give them your credit card, go check out your room, go have a cocktail at a couple of the bars, and scope the place out. Good Luck on your trip.

I am not suprised about Atlantis, but the Sandals woes are shocking! Atlantis can be as rude as it wants and people will still go there, because it is a one of a kind resort in the area. I guess we were fortunate that everything was in stock the week we were at Sandals. Maybe things improved a bit since November. Lets hope so for Toast's sake!

Toast,
Please let us know about your Sandals experience when you return. What you tell us will help us decide if we will ever return. GL bud,

I'm really surprised to hear that Frank & beach

The staff there could not have been more nice and friendly with us. Every Restaurant we went to the staff was on the money with filling water, Being friendly, talking to us, bringing coffee, checking to see everything was OK. The Food was 5 Star and being a culinary grad I was blown away. One night I had Rack of lamb with a arugala pesto that knocked my socks off. Surf & Turf, Grouper, Salmon are all great choices. The Desserts is another story they would roll out this dessert rack with these creations that looked to good to eat and were out of this world. Each Restaurant was more elegant than the next.
The pools were fabulous with the staff serving drinks, live bands playing music. Man I can go on & on about how great this place is
and the money they put into this place is just mind boggling.
I guess to each his own but my wife and I won't bother going anywhere else because we found paradise there.
