so i noticed something interesting in both montreal and toronto... where do y'all hide the line judges on canadian tennis courts? i hear the calls being made, but there's nobody there to make them. unless the ball kids are doing double duty.

Almost all men's events of the ATP Tour (except for the stupid Red Clay Events) have got rid of line judges, it is all done by computers now. The WTA Tour is a bit behind, but they are slowly getting rid of line judges, again except for the bullshit stupid moronic Events played on Red Clay.

that explains it. i knew they were planning on completely eliminating them in the next year or two. so is that the chair umpire calling "out", based on the computer?

The umpire never says a word, the "voice" you hear is either computerized or pre recorded voices. Some tournaments have even used little kids voices which is kind of cool for the kids to hear their voices on the court. I recall some tournaments in the past using voices from "Front Line Workers" as well as Doctors and Nurses.
