Canada
Madd Canada (mothers against drunk drivers), recently there was an article in the Toronto Star. The story has been picked up by several media outlets:

Madd Canada only spends roughly 19% on victim services, and campaigns against drunk driving. the rest goes to admin, and fundraisers.

Madd Canada also will not allow an outside audit to take place, they say they will do an internal one. They also say in their fundraising they raise awareness of drinking and driving. which is BS.

avoid this charity, try to give to charities that 80% or more go to the stated goal. after admin, and fundraising, ect.

it is sad, know someone a few years back that died from a drunk driver this time of year, was almost ill when I heard this story. probably better to give to the person or family effected directly.

another sad part is charity that are good will be effected. a respected Southern Ontario Hospital which has 90% of the money raised go to programs, and research has seen donations off sharply because of the story.

so please avoid giving to Madd Canada, until they improve and allow an outside audit.

I check out most of my charities give to and now will do so more closely.

thanks

There are web services that track the % of money used for "administrative purposes". I don't give to any that are higher than 10%.

Good post, selkirk.

I've never heard of a major charity organizations giving this little. Terrible.
