Outrights:

Markus Brier(10/1) e.w.
- - Last year I successfully backed Brier(40/1) here and Ogilvy(80/1) in this or that Open. For weeks I've been weighing and tracking the return engagements with a definite eye on backing Brier and doing little with Ogilvy, and that's how I see sorting out my final answers. Simply put, one is the man to beat, one is not.

Emanuele Canonica(100/1) e.w.
- - Features in my notes from last year: (1) I've never seen him more buoyant from shot to shot; and (2) I can't concede there's any course on the European Tour that suits his game better . . . Nearby Austria further suggests to me a sympatico sync or accord, and further harmony was missing out by two strokes at the U.S. Open qualifying, which was about spot on the number I had him projected for there.

Martin Kaymer(25/1) e.w.
- -

Steven O'Hara(100/1) e.w.
- -

Will edit this post before the off to add several more tasty morsels of nervous anguish.

Outright plays (total stake per play: 1pt)

Richard Green to win 13/1 e.w. @ Stan James and Victor Chandler
Not really an event to back short-priced players, but the odds are not very attractive on any player at this stage of the week and with such a wide gulf between the top dozen players and the rest of the field, Green should really be in the mix again this week. Since returning to the Tour three weeks ago, he has finished 4th and 8th in his two Tour events. And with a 4th place finish on this course last year, there should still be some value in this price.

Martin Kaymer to win 25/1 e.w. @ BetFred
Only half the price that he was last week, but this is a much weaker field and he did enough to warrant retention as a selection for another week. It was the first time that he had held the lead in a European Tour event, but is should be remembered that he was only playing in German regional events 12 months ago and is just 22 years old. Now that the Tour is in Austria, he should be guaranteed a good section of support if he were to take the lead again and he can only learn from last week's experience.

Soren Hansen to win 40/1 e.w. @ BetInternet [6 places]
With such a gap between the top players and the rest of the field, I am surprised at these odds. He is one of the few players to have won on Tour and/or rank in the top-35 in the Order of Merit last year. His finishes this year have been less impressive, but there have been some better performances recently: he was 6th in the Asian Open in April before a final round 78; he finished 13th in the Open de Andalucia last month and was 12th at the cut in the Irish Open before a third round 82. And he had been in worse form before this event last year, but still finished 2nd, shooting every round in the 60s. This course clearly sets up well for his game and against such a weak field, a repetition of last year's finish is certainly feasible.

here's the odds I took of those who are still in contentiion btw,
now that's looking interest going into the final day, would just love to see Richard Green fade:
Arruti 300/1 1/4 1-6 Sunderlands (T44)
Butterfield 250/1 1/4 1-6 Sunderlands (T63)
McEvoy 300/1 1/4 1-6 Sunderlands (T2)
Skold 509/1 Betfair 50/1 1-5 PaddyPower (T5)

Sad ending for these picks - both skold and mcevoy faded away- atleast Stan's got Richie Green :SIB
