Sorry to see him leave, good bye Hockey Town, hello re-building town. I'm sure that large front loaded contract will help ease the pain of coaching the Leaf's.
i'm happy that he's gone. in last six seasons Detroit won three play-off series. 08-10 he was still riding Scotty's old team. i understand that from Toronto's view this is successful coaching but he didn't bring anything new to Detroit to make them winners again so it's good decision to let him go.
he has dropped some big matches and series during last seasons, SC finals vs Pitt 3-2 -> 3-4, vs Chicago up 3-1 to lose 3-4, this years Tampa series 3-2 going home -> 3-4...
team has been awfully thin and it needs a lot of attention no matter who will be next coach (very probably Jeff Blashill http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Blashill ). i would rather sign 4-5 well better than average players than some superstar a'la Datsyik (who will quit in a few years) to form a solid play off-team
i just wonder which players he is taking with him to Leafs... Howard ??

Losing Babcock especially with what Det. offered against the Leaf's offer made it really easy. I liked him but as Snafu stated is one cup & quite a few early out's. Sounds like Blashill is pretty much of a lock. I wish him luck in Tor.
How have those long term, mega million contracts done for coaches/front office folks?
