fletch,
You forgot to tell people that my columns are on the Wrestleline.com area of CBS Sportsline and that they are written under my real name of Ben Miller. Hopefully my producer isn't reading this because the reason I use Nick D is that he asked that CBS is squeamish about gambling and he asked me not to use my real name for my gambling stuff.
As far as the backyard wrestling tape, there is really not that much to tell. Some guys (might have been the same ones who did girls gone wild, but I never confirmed that rumor) went out and got people to send them their sickest backyard wrestling footage and slapped it on a tape with a clip of an ex-valet (Major Gunns, I forgot her real name already) stripping and now they are selling it.
My feelings on it are that the people who would buy this garbage have some issues as it is really only a bunch of kids hitting each other with objects, diving off houses and doing other crazy stunts. It is only "wrestling" by name as it has almost no resemblance to the production you might see at a WWF show or even a small time wrestling show. The real reason I dislike it, though, is that non-wrestling fans who dislike the business already see this crap and assume that all wrestling fans are idiots because they would buy this stuff.
I can tell you that the feeling within the wrestling industry is that this tape is a joke and that the kids who do crazy stunts in backyard wrestling hurt their chances of ever making it in the biz rather than helping their chances.
The only good thing about backyard wrestling is that it shows what amazing athletic ability and dedication REAL pro wrestlers put into their craft. If you look at a Kurt Angle or Steve Austin, it is amazing the timing, coordination, strength, stamina and quickness that is shown compared to the dolts on this tape.
