Davenport to home must be about 350 miles. You must follow hwy 61 up from La Crosse. To bad you did'nt have time to hang out. I'd have my single son take you out. Have a safe trip.

normally it's about 307 miles, the way i go.... (which is up thru IA) taking the LaCrosse way is about 320 miles or so, but almost the exact same time for the drive....with any luck, the kids will be sound asleep in the back seat by the time we get to those parts, so you were very right on the *no time* thing
frown.gif
i'll be making more trips thru that way at more convenient hours, tho......

reason i want to take the river route this time, is to see in a few places how high the mighty miss is coming up
smile.gif

i'll honk my horn on the way thru town

That strang guy by the Mississippi bridge in La Crosse. The one with the sign on his neck(said take me)that was me. I stood and waved from 8:30pm to 10:00pm. I gave up and went home. That's life in the fast lane here.

That stretch of road you are talking about, djv is what Dylan was singing about in his own unique way? That drive from Dubuque to La Crosse-- a really pretty one, that.
Water up much your way, djv? Its out over the banks here-- says its got a chance to be worse than in '93. Thats bad. 93 was horrible. Couldn't drive anywhere downtown for weeks as so many streets were closed due to the high water...
Stay dry....

Redsfan she is high. We crest tonight 16.6 about a foot under the 65 record. Our old dike system from then is still hoalding up. We have parts of the area we just can't keep dry and we have to let-em go. The folks that live there understand there on there own. Helped build those dikes in 65. I was young kid 23 years old. Worked around the clock for 5 days. Then they asked for folks to guard the dikes, help keep people off them. I mean some them dum asses wanted to go up on the dikes to see how high the water was. A few did sneak by at one end of town and the dike went out. By the time they could stop it and fix it 40 to 50 homes went under about 3 ft of water. They fined them all 1000 bucks and but them in jail for 60 days. They got out during the day as the water went down. To help clean up the mess. I hope your level does not go past 93. I remember the pitcures dam that was bad. Sounds like you are in a high safe place. But can't get to many places. You stay dry to.

Flood update---

They now expect the crest here in Davenport sometime on tuesday, the 24th of April. they are still forecasting about 22.3 feet, which would be just shy of the record of 22.63 feet in '93. Flood stage here in the Q-C is 17 feet.
Am off to help sandbag in a little while-- just wasting time this saturday morning waiting for my ride to show up...

Hope all goes ok. Rain in the forcast for next three days. Chit we don't need that right now. I don't sand bag to well anymore the old back slows me up. I did go down and offer to walk the dikes help keep folks off. Thought they tell me to go home. Heck walked guard duty two 12 hour shifts. And there were those dunm asses that want to crawl up on them. You know they can't take time to help build the dikes. But they like to show up latter to screw things up. Stay dry Reds.

Reds....is the dike around J. O'Donnell gonna manage to protect the field? dad tells me they're playing in Clinton right now, rather than the old Northwest Park, standby that i remember as a kid

Mama--

Just got back a while ago. Helped out down in the village of East Davenport. Yes, they are playing tonight in Clinton. Heck, if you were to sit in the front row of JOD right now, your feet would be wet.
They are using Black Hawk College's field for tommarow's game. With that rain djv is getting, we are probably in for a new record. HOT here today. Over 80, and sunny, but high winds, too. Going to drink a few beers tonight and watch Lennox Lewis get beat..... rain tommarow here they say. Glad we got that wall of sandbags a little higher today.......

djv--

yes, a tasty win at 16-1 odds. Just gives me more cash to lose betting the bases....

Mama-

Me bad. JOD is still dry, as the levees they built around it are still holding up. I had some bad info. from one of the guys I was sandbagging with yesterday. It was touch and go last night, as they developed a leak-- all is well as of this morning. Rode my bike to Centennial Bridge-- to get a view of the flood. WOW! is abou the only word to describe it. The web-cam shows a good view, too.

Reds you made CNN. I think that was you showing others how to build those dikes.
