Now I have to say while watchin the match, I was very surprised at Australias lack of agressiveness scoring runs. I even thought at a few times that the Aussies were not interested in scoring. Let's face it, the 4th wicket was long but uneventful....in fact I thought I it weird that they were nonchalant pretty much the whole way.

In the spirit of conspiracy theories...this is classic. To anyone not sure of what I'm talikng about.......this would be the equivalent of the San Antonio Spurs losing to Oral Roberts University.
I have never seen a bigger upset in any sport in all my life....in fact I will make a stand and say it had to be a fix. As said earlier...would the Spurs ever lose to Oral Roberts? It was a convincing fix...that's the problem....the Aussies scored a meagre but respectable 249.....but if they tried they scored 300 easily...Hogg never even got to bat.

I may have arguements on this but nobody will ever argue that this is the biggest upset (crooked) in sports history.....and yes cricket players do bet.

At headingly years ago...England was 500/1 during play to win a test match against the dominant Aussies. Well a couple Aussie players bet England at the odds...and guess what....a miracle comeback...a miracle bowling attack and England won...go figure.

Today was a bigger surprise!

I know sh** about Cricket......but I do know Cricket is right up there with boxing.....fixes like crazy......and from what I understand, it's damn easy to fix a cricket match just like a boxing match :scared

and ummm...Oral Roberts beating San Antonio huh....that would be a big upset.......kinda like the Canadian soccer team winning the World CUP :scared

Just a couple of things mate.

Firstly, This is the best cricket side in the world and they have the utmost integrity and desire to win every time they walk onto the field. To suggest a "fixer" in this game is just absurd. These guys are paid plenty and if a few of them were found out to be even thinking about "throwing" a match, they would be linched on their return to Oz.

They have been the best side for more than a decade. The fact that they were beaten a few days ago by an English County side (with a couple of handy internationals in the team!) during a 'warm up' game, just shows that they are a little 'cocky' about this tour of England. The Poms are on the rise and the Aussies better keep their wits about them or they won't be bringing the "Ashes" home with them once again.

A few of the guys are currently out of form and the world's best bowler isn't even in the team right now. Needless to say they will be even hungrier now (as well as a little embarrassed) when they play the England side in tonights match. The books haven't lost sight of this even though the Aussies have drifted in the betting from $1.50 out to $1.70. Now is the time to load up on the action. Too much pride at stake. Take the World Champs to win!!

As bad as it is that we were beaten by a cricket "minnow" like Bangladesh.......it could have been worse....at least we weren't beaten by the cricketing "microbe" of Canada!!

Secondly, This is how you spell AUSTRALIA :thefinger

That bit is wrong too.

England were 100/1 in a test match in the late 70's, offered by a bookie at the ground.
3 Australian players (Marsh, Lillee, Thompson?) quite openly took what was rediculous odds for any 2 horse race.
They've openly talked/laughed about it ever since. Hardly conspiracy stuff.

With PAWA on this one. Huge upset, but DEFINATELY NO FIX.

Appreciate the response guys....sorry about the spelling. The local matches that the Aussies lost in were more in fun than anything. Must admit I did not watch those but this is what I was told from a respected Cricket trader.

Yes fix is a strong word for the world's greatest cricket team.....but come on.....how do you figure it? I mean I had a funny feeling the Aussies weren't trying too hard while batting.

If you know of any greater upset......let me know. I have heard of a Bagladesh upset years ago against Pakistan (heard not seen) and FIX was the word openly used in that scenario.....so how does one sum this up.

P.S
I had no money on this match....of course now I wish I did.
Canada......with John Davidson playing would beat Bangladesh 9 out of 10 (well they would win anyway)......but they woud not beat Australia 1 time in a thousand.

And yes....this is the equivalent Oral Robets U beating the San Antoino Spurs.

Aus were 500-1 in that Ashes test, alb is right... Lillee and Marsh both took it, got the bus driver to get their tickets...sure, wasn't a fix, but not a good look...
Given all that has gone before in cricket, why couldn't this have been a fix? Ever think Cronje was a cheat until he was exposed?
Methinks u Aussies are getting a little defensive here...
Am not saying it was fixed, but I don't think u can just rule it out immediately...

Give me one reason why??

Why would respected sportsmen, most on salaries of well above $100k per year...not to mention sporting/advertising contracts worth that and more, risk their entire career for extra cash?

Simply does not amke any sence at all. Pakistan are slightly different in that alot of their 'alleged' activies stemmed from close contact with actual bookies, and the bookies were paying them off, rather than them betting on themselves.
Same deal with Cronje.

You keep saying that they batted poorly, but they got 249, which you'd think (they would have expected) would beat Bangladesh every time.
Maybe they batted "slowly" (still 5 an over) to just spend some time in the middle after a series of batting collapses that they have had recently.

Bangaldesh recently beat India in a ODI in Bangladesh.
Pretty sure (could be wrong) that Zimbabwe beat England early last year?

And your analagy is way too extreme. It's not men against boys. It's two professional sporting teams, who play on the same stage, and things don't always go like they 'should'.
More like Oral Roberts beating N. Carolina ;)

Never seen a horse win @ 100/1?

And, of course it wasn't a good look, Anders, but like I said, they've been completely open about it for 25 years!

Aren't things a little back-to-front here anyway?? Shouldn't us Aussies be screaming 'fix', and a New Zealander laughing his head off at us for a woeful loss? :D

4-66 of 18.2.......Proof enough! :D

...and that was with Gilchrist getting runs. The so-called "Danger-man" that everyone keeps saying has averaged about 18 in ODI's in the last year.

No conspiracy here lads...I'm starting to think we are as bad as we look right now!
