The real tragedy is that they did this to him instead of just putting him down when it was the right thing to do.

as someone who had 7 screws and a titanium plate in their fibula from a football injury, I can't even imagine what that fuking surgery would feel like. Must have been brutal.

Above the Clouds....
i'll ask one more question on this issue of those of you that say it wasnt for the money(keeping him alive)

Was it so he could race again?

Was it so he could live a happy life in a barn/pasture somewhere?

Wareagle, it was all about the money, take it from someone who was into raceing from the get go. The barn where Funnycide was sired has a banner that says we love Funnycide. they still race that horse because he is a gelding, no use for breeding. Same as Barbaro nuf said.

I guess I'm the only one who agrees with wareagle here.

Horses get put down every day. Any other horse they would have put down the second the injury happened.

If you truly cared about horses here, then you guys wouldn't bring up the argument about what a great racehorse he was. You are, in essence, saying that Barbaro's death is more significant than the horse down the street from you because it could run fast.

As as far as tpaine, you must be the horse wisperer. After all, you could read it's mind when it "didn't want to go on" any longer.

Sure, it's newsworthy...but to have it leading off all over the place in this current timeframe regarding Iraq and everything else is a bit much.

...? Today he woke up and they noticed that something wasn't right... Like I said earlier, they would have done this earlier if they had gotten they signs like they got today. With the following Barbaro had gained, if he had been lathergic, ect earlier, he would have been put down ASAP. His connections are great people, and im sorry that you don't understand the whole story.

I love horse racing and the horses involved, I worked at Arlington Park over the summer and witnessed the terrible spree of breakdowns that occured there. To me, any horse breaking down or needed to be euthanized is sad. All I ask is that people don't make a mockery out of a great horse passing away, thats really not necessary.

To each his own I guess. I personally dont see what all the fuss is about. Horse is bought to be exploited, gets exploited and makes the owner a lot of money, horse dies being exploited so we must feel differently about him than the thousands of other animals who meet the same fate each day. Call me heartless but he is no different than the dog I saw laying on the road this morning outside of the fact that the dog didnt suffer for 9 months. JMO

Was totally going to make a hilariously, albeit tasteless now, funny post right here, but after reading tpaines post I have decided I agree with him and its a reasonable request. I do, however, as I always do, reserve the right to suspend my current feelings of social conscience and make an ass of myself at a later date.

no i tend to agree with him also.

it's unfortunate that a beautiful animal has died. but other than the huge money that was involved with the horse, it's no different than a common household pet dying.

but as wareagle & saint has said...we should keep things in perspective.
